measuring cups

i brought some kashi go lean cearl and the serving is 1/2cup.how do you measure that with a measuring cup or what and what brand of cup there is. do you just put that much in the the mesuring cup or what. iam confuse

You just get a measuring cup that says 1/2 on it and then you scoop it into the cereal, fill it up, level it off, and then there you go you have a half cup of cereal. Thn if you want you could put it into a bowl, or anything else you wish. Whats to be confused about?

that goes for the same for oatmeal?

No, because the volume of oatmeal changes when you cook it. 1/2 cup dry of oats is usually one serving. If you measured out 1 full cup dry, it would be two servings. Did I explain that well, or was it confusing? New Years tiredness here...

Yes its the same for oats....read the serving size. If the serving size is 1/2 cup of oats(dry)measure a half cup of it then cook it. This ussually leads to one cup cooked.

Always read the labels carfully for the serving sizes and amounts. If it says dry then you must measure the food in its dry form then cook it...don't base oats on the cooked form always dry.

The volume of kashi also changes once you let it sit in the milk for to long......always measure items such as these in their dry forms.

On that note what exactly is the standard measurement for a cup? is it a tea cup or a handful? or is it a speciic weight in grams?

Its a specific volume measured out. Not by weight or anything like that b/c some things vary in weight and size.

i find it easier to use an electronic postal scale (bout 40 bucks at staples) to weigh out my food, rather than use measuring cups most of the time. its just as quick, and it doesnt create more dirty dishes (and everyone knows we use a LOT of dishes).
