Should it be considered a sport in anyway?

The athletics are certainly phenomenal, but similar to bodybuilding, the sporting aspect is questionable.

Any thoughts?

the injuries are very serious ones, worse then some football ones. but its called SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT.

Posted by: Prince

I don't think it can be considered a sport simply because the outcome is predetermined, thus there is no real "competition".

Posted by: naturaltan

I agree with prince ... it's all pre-determined.

While the competition isn't real per se, do you think they promote the guys who can't work hard?

I would imagine the competition to "win" their status via hard work, acting skills, and physical fitness would be enough to at least rival that of many Olympic sports.

I mean come on...ballroom dancing?

Not to mention the occasional death (see Owen Hart).

I am not discounting that they are athletes in their own right, I am just saying it cannot truley be a sport.

As far as acting abilities, LMAO, they have none!

they don't have much of an acting ability but more so than most of the day time tv shows.

and no I must agree it is not a sport.

What Prince said!

Posted by: senopole

I agree, its all predetermined, plus, they aren't actually performing the moves on their opponents, they are acting, even though accidents do happen

LMAO

I have to agree with Prince, while the physical work involved is phenominal, the fact that the outcome is predetermined in my eyes makes it entertainment and not a sport. Plus all the story lines etc, it might as well be a soap opera.

Posted by: Prince

I like it when everyone agrees with me!

Posted by: Tank316

being that i'm close to the Twin Cities i'ne had the chance to meet several of the ol timers, greg Gagne and father Vern,Jim Brunzell,Hulkster, and the latest, believe it or not Ken Patera.we talked for an hour,he's gotten chubby

Entertainment, not sport.

Posted by: quantum

Sporst entertainment.

They are athletes, it's just not really competition.

Posted by: KANE_VICIOUS

there are some pretty good actors look at hulk hogan or the rock

Posted by: Lightman009

Yeah, its sport entertainment. But after following the WWF for quite a while I have learned that these guys are some of the most supreme athletes I have ever seen.

Posted by: Lightman009

They also have to be great actors and incredibly determined. Anybody working out to possibly have a career in this field? Also, Wrestlemania is coming up, anyone gonna watch it?

Posted by: KANE_VICIOUS

i am signing up in wrestling school after i finish HS if it doesnt work out i am gonna be a cop

I don't see any Academy Awards coming either of their ways

Posted by: seyone

I think what they do is great, all of the dialogue is live and infront of thousands of people. I don't think I could do that.

Posted by: Lightman009

Hey Kane, What school are you going to try?

i am thinking about some local school here in new england

Posted by: Skyliner

IMO they are some of the best actors, in their own way. Award or not it doesn't matter.

Think about it, they wrestle and 'act' in front of around 20,000 ppl LIVE every week, if they mess up something, there is no "Cut" or "Redo". They can't afford to 'Act wrongly', if ya catch my drift.

Of course, they can act, but with even more outstanding atheletes.

Posted by: Lightman009

Just watch out Kane, there are a lot of schools out there that just rip you off. Try to find that one that Dory Funk has set up, I heard that is one of the best. There is also one ran by Shawn Michaels that is pretty good.

It's all entertainment period no if ands or butts. I don't even bother wasting my time to watch it, I think it's just a soap opera for men! No doubt they are all great athletes they all work hard to keep their bodies in shape and looking their best. The real pro wrestlers go to the olympics and train twice as hard than athletes in any other sport. Well wrestlers and a select few other sports such as boxing. I love the watching two men go head to head in a all out brawl to see which is the better man, not to see the fan favorite win. When I think of wrestling greats athletes like Dan Gable, Bruce Baumgartner, the Brand's brother's, and many more. Definatley not Hollywood Hulk Hogan, or The Rock.

Posted by: DomH

no its entertainment.

You cannot WWF wrestle for your country

Posted by: calamity528

I don't reckon it can even be considered a sport. But its great entertainment and there is no doubt that the wrestlers are great athletes.
