I currently use Atlas Superweight Gainer, which is around 1500cals per serving, they recommend 3 servings a day. But, i figure that is WAY too much for me, so i half the portion to around 750 cals per serving, 3 times a day. One first thing in morning, one in the middle of the day, and one in the evening. a half portion gives (according to the label) 50gm protein, 104gm carbohydrate, 5gm fat - assuming low fat milk is used. i tend to use semi skimmed. i eat a small snack/meal (eg. tuna or chicken sandwich)between portions and a meal with the family in the evening.
i'm 5'11, 158lb's. i guess im an ecto type person, trying to bulk up a bit.

are there better weight gainers out there that would be more beneficial? or, what have you tried and had good results with? preferably, available in the uk

many thanks for your responses

weight gainers are nothing but simple sugars and whey protein(s). personally I would eat enough whole foods to get the weight gain process started then start to supplement with powders on top of that.

i have used serios mass by on, it is very good - like half a serving with 1 scoop protein twice a day, or nlarge is also another good one,

Arggg... I completely agree with LAM - Real food is SO much more beneficial than these crappy 'weight gainers'. These things are only good if you want a whole heap of crappy calories with no nutritional content at all!

Real food offers you vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals, water and many other things we are just not able to quantify yet.

If you are looking for a quick food replacement jjust make yourself up a shake or some homemade bars. You can just pick things out of the following ingredients that fit your macro/calorie needs:

Carbs
skim milk/skim milk powder
banana
oats/oatbran
FF/sugar free yoghurt
Berries
Applesauce (cook into bars)

Proteins:
whey/protein powders
cottage cheese
Egg/Egg whites (cook into bars)

Fats:
PB/nut butters
flaxseeds/flax oil
Olive oil

eg:
For some Bars -
Oats
Protein powder (egg white, soy or casein cooks the best)
Egg whites
PB
Applesauce
Vanilla essense
Cinnamon

For a Shake -
Banana
Yoghurt
Skim milk
Almond butter
Oats

erm, well, to be completely honest, its cos im too lazy. that may sound bad, i dunno, but i leave for work quite early in morning. I dont really want to be messing about with blenders, just chuck the milk/powder into my shaker, shake it about and drink it. 1minute and job done! pop back into the house in the afternoon, and again, 1 minute of shake and drink, and im all done

If you are too lazy to keep to a proper diet you won't make the gains that you desire in this sport. weight gainers don't build lean muscular physiques...

you are right, i must look into/start doing it myself, there are definite benefits from home made over shop bought. i'll have to get in some ingredients then simply get up a little earlier in the day.

many thanks
