Vacation Diets?

We're going skiing in Vail the 2nd week in February. Since there is no way to carry a cooler & pack my meals as usual, all meals will be eaten in restaurants on the mountain. Breakfast, lunch & dinner. How far back would it set my progress if I gave my diet a vacation as well? I know skiing can be decent cardio, but I definitely don't want to come back 5 pounds heavier. Is it just making the healthiest food choices of what I have available?

I've never seen anybody gain weight on the moutain. I would eat whenever you can what ever you can. I lose weight every single time I go boarding. I've never been skiing anywhere and eaten 3 times a day on the mountain, good luck with that.

You should be ok, as long as you don't go over board with the snacks and beer.

Just make healthy choices off the menu. If things are loaded with oils and such, see if they can prepare it other ways for you. Doesn't hurt to ask.

Breakfast: you can order some boiled eggs, or if they have some oatmeal

Lunch & Dinner: you can order Chicken breasts, Seafood, Steamed veggies, Salads w. no dressings

What do you mean by that? That's all we've ever done 3 years in a row. Breakfast at 8am before the lifts open, lunch around 1pm somewhere on the mountain or at the base, and then dinner the same. Sometimes dinner may be in town.........

But I'm going to try to make the healthiest choices & limit the alcohol.

That's a good rule to follow, but I would not worry too much about it. A 185lb man skiing for four hours will burn in excess of 3,000 calories.

Wifey and I are planning to take a ski vacation next winter (a first for me). Vail is a possibility.

Since when do the words Vacation and Diet belong in the same sentence?

Hahahaha

They don't.

Ok...

VACATION.... Take a look at that word - it means TAKE A BREAK!

Eat sensibly (don't go overboard), make sensible choices and be AWARE of things... But allow yourself to relax and enjoy - taste the foods and endulge your senses! You want to be able to EXPERIENCE the holiday... Geezzz... Imagine how you will be when you get back if you let your paranoia about 'getting fat' ruin your fun and you spent the whole time denying yourself!!

Plus -
You will be skiing = cardio
It will be cold = more energy lost to keep you warm

So you will also be expending lots more energy.

Just have fun!

I agree 100%, when I take a vacation I am also taking a vacation from my diet and training, have fun and do not worry about it.
