hi, I have a lot of trouble doing hyperextentions, even with no weight, after doing them, I get bad catches in my back for 2 or 3 days. I do a lot of heavy lifting at my job, could this pain be from overtraining, or do you think I just have weak muscles? Should I skip them all together? Thanks for the help! BILLIE

I have been doing these for the last few week's and am feeling a defenit improvement in my lower back I have never had pain doing them though even with weight,I do think however some people hyperextend or arch there back to far up, watch your form when you do them and see if that makes a diff.

Thanks tommy, I will definetly watch my form on those, I think for the next couple of weeks I will do some deadlifts instead and see how those are affecting it, my lower back doesn't usually start to pain me until I've been at work for a few hours on a back day....so maybe I just need to relax on my lower back workout for a little bit....BILLIE

well if your muscles are underdeveloped then does the rational solution seem like it should be to continue to ignore them? It could be that your overextending your self and are not performing the movement correctly, but more likely its that your lower back is underworked . Its just like every other muscle in that it needs to be strength trained. Not sure your history, but hyper-extensions aren't the answer for the lower back anyways, I would suggest familiarizing yourself with more movements and take it slow

I could deadlift 400 for 12 reps but when it came time to do hyperextensions my back would start spasming, I would find a different exercise
