worthwhile exercise or overhyped? Do they really do what they say they should do (target upper chest) or are they just an elaborate front shoulder and tricep exercise?
will eliminating them from your workout have any detrimental effects on the appearance or shape of your chest muscles?

Inclines have there place. At it's very least, it's a solid compound lift, that can be used as a variation in routines. Also hits the front delts nice too.

Inclines are great, and should absolutely be included.

Same here , I always do them ... Rangers if you want to variate a bit ... Try changing the inclination a little bit and try dumbells instead of barbell or vice versa.

This is one of the most fiercly debated topics on this site, and in bodybuilding in general. It has been argued to death and since neither side will give an inch, it is up to the individual to decided for his/her self.
My opinion is that inclines DO target the upper chest and should be the cornerstone of most trainee's chest programs, since the upper area of the pecs is normally not as developed as the lower portion on most.

i love me some incline DB presses... I kinda have no choice in the matter either...flat bench flares up my shoulder injury bigtime...incline, decline and cables only for me.
