Hey does anyone else here wakes up in the middle of the night and make themselves a protein shake?

I did it awhile back but then I got used to waking up and started could not stop.
Wondering if anyone else does/did this?

Its a great idea...if I could(get my ass outta bed in the middle of the night, then manage to fall back to sleep) I def. would!

I do, sort of. My wife leaves for work at 6am and I get up to have a protein shake, then I go back to bed and get up at 9:30 (this is on my days off though)

Just drink casein before bed and get some sleep.

Casein won't last 8-9 hours, will it?

This is ridiculous. Your deep sleep is more important.

Oh yeah I agree 100%. But whats ridiculous is the fact that I wake up about 2-3 every night to take a piss. Man is that annoying.

So I am half awake and half asleep just throw some whey and water drink brush teeth and fall back into bed.

If I happen to wake up in the middle of the nite, I have 1/2 cup of cottage.

1 cup of cottage before bed won't last 8h, but your sleep will get you more results than waking up to have a nite-meal. If you are used to it, I'd rather have something that will last longer than whey. Just to add, if you have some healthy fat with your cottage, it will make you digestion slower.

it can. many years ago I didn't belive it would last so long. I bought a big batch of customized protein from the protein factory in 2000. it was a 40% caesin, 30% egg protein and 30% whey mixture. I made a shake at about 10 pm at around 6 am the next morning I was brushing my teeth and jammed my toothbrush down the back of my throat by accident and I puked up a big ball of undigested caesin.

I agree, I think sleeping is more important than waking up to drink protein.

Definitely sleep over whey!

You guys are missing the point. We are up already. It's not like we set an alarm to wake up and down a shake.

i do agree sleep > mid-nite whey, providing you have a decent serving of cottage cheese before you hit the sack

however if i ever do wake up in the middle of the night (or more likely i get woken up by drunken flatmates) i'll down a mix of whey and oats with a few peanuts too

do you guys think i should drop the oats or reduce the serving i use if drink whey/oats during the night, will the carbs be stored as fat or will they help prevent muscle wastage and thus helping me grow while i sleep? or is it all about protein and fats at nighttime?

I think since your metabolism is so low when sleeping, carbs are more likely to be stored as fat.

I have not lately. But for a while, I would set aside about 6-8 OZ of my pre-bed time shake (which consists of nonfat cottage cheese, low carb milk, flak seed oil and some whey protien) and drink it if I got up in the middle of the nite to take a leak. Like it was said, if you are already up it only takes a couple of minutes to down a shake and get back to bed. If not I had a shake ready to drink with my oatmeal first thing in the morning. Just to clarify, I only drank it if I happen to get up to piss, and did not set an alarm to get up.
