I was browsing the isles for something to spice up the taste of plain chicken that I've been eating for two months now and came across soy sauce. Any thing bad about it? One table spoon is 35cals no fat and min sugar like 1g. Sould I buy it or just leave it alone? Also seen Snickers Marathon bars and thought they might taste better than some of the other bars but also figured they would have worse nutrion any ideas on these as well? TIA!!

The soy in moderation is OK. Becareful of the sodium. Those Snickers are garbage. Stay far away from them!

you could get the "Lite" soy sauce. It has less sodium.

For chicken Shake and Bake is excellent (but only if you bake it). Soy sauce alone is a little salty but I find a combination of soy, teriyaki and orange juice makes a nice little marinade.

Snickers Marathon bars ahve sugar in them, and alot of it. Look for tri-o-plex or if those are too hard to find, get detour bars.

Not really - it is high in sodium but for most people this is not an issue.

Argggg.... Don't even GLACE and them - I am sure that stuff is so bad for you that your fat cells will absorb it through your skin!!

Homemade bars are the way to go.

Hmmmm....this reminds me of something I made the other day to spice up my chicken. I'll post the recipe.

Bragg's make " Amino Acid" that is made out of soy sauce
Less sodium and organic http://www.bragg.com/products/liquidaminos.html

i use a lot of mrs. dash and chayenne pepper.

I love soy, try the dark mushroom stuff if you can find it. You may have to find an asian grocer to get it, but worth the trip. Much better flavor, not as salty. As long as you are taking in lots of water, the sodium really shouldn't be an issue.

One other cool thing about soy sauce is that it comes from, well, soy, so it will also add a few g of protien here and there...try getting that from ketchup! (Oh yeah, the low carb ketchup is pretty tasty too.)

I love cooking with balsamic vinegar

Very low sodium compared to soy sauce and tastier (in my opinion).

I marinate my steaks overnight in a lime/garlic-salt/worcestershire combination.

I have done a garlic/worcestershire marinade before. Tasty. Try it with pork chops too.

Thanks for the bump PreMier.

Asians are among the leanest people on the planet. Nothing to fear from soy sauce!

Add wholegrain mustard to that as well

XcelKrush, detour bars taste like I could barely eat 1/2 a one. if I have to have a protein bar it would have to be meso-tech. Do you guys have any kick ass marinades for chicken breasts?
