Hey All,
I added DB declines to my routine two weeks ago. Not sure of the difference with flat bench press. Does it isolate the bottom of the Pec better???

Any answers out there?

It works the muscles from a different angle. It doesn't isolate the bottom.

And it does a number on my shoulder joint. I wouldnt recommend doing them all the time.

hurts your shoulder? That's strange because your shoulder is in less of a stretched position and your distance travelled for each rep is less.

true but depending on the angle of the bench as not all are the same you can really jam the humerus up into that shoulder socket pretty good. Some people this exercise feels graet for and others it just bothers the heck out of them.

I love decline benches either with the bar or dumbbells, plus flyes feel great too. Agree with the above that it is just another way to hit an angle. I save them for last because declines recruit the lats so much that its easy to go heavy even after an exhausting workout.

What would be the optimal declination?

Decline hits the lats harder?

LUUUVVVV decline!

It feels to me as though my pecs are placed under greater tension when performing declines, although that may just be proprioception.

I don't know as far as degrees go. I jsut know when I do when that is to steep. I like a prett low incline, very slight. If I had to guess I would say I like is at around a 15 degree angle.

thats simular to the angle i use, i did use to do them at a 45 degree angle but it feels alot better and seems to work them more doing it at about 15 degree angle

I like declines. Particularly with dumbells. I definately feel more stress on the lower portion of the pecs, whatever that means.

They're probably my favorite bench press. I don't like inclines much, but flats are still nice feeling. With inclines I feel like I'm doing something in between a bench press and shoulder press....Which in a way, I guess I am.

Declines are cool as I get a better feel/swell and line appear under the pec that I get from dips, (no matter the grip closer or wider, lean forward or upright) it always just hits triceps more. Decline is good because it seems to utilise the chest more then flat/incline bench without using so much of the deltoid ( for me anyway) and can leave them till last and still go heavy, couldn't ever leave flat/incline till last and still go all out as well. I agree with the what Damnhardgainer said, I feel my lats stabilize me more and give that little bit more assistance than on the other (don't get a pump in them though, that'd be worrying if doing a chest exercise!). Lastly, I like the decline at 30-45 degree.
