Posted by: Trusted Employe

im only 15 so im gonan start wit hthe easy one untill i can close it easily then move up.. start wit hthe trainer 1 i guess then level 1 and so on

Posted by: Mudge

Lots of "free" ways to work on grip strength, but that could help potentially yes.

A storebought gripper is around 30-40 pounds, the entry level grippers similar to the Crush grippers seem to start around 100#.

Yea, COC is the way to go. I love mine.

Posted by: Dale Mabry

What are you looking to do? Are you looking for bigger forearms or some type of performance enhancement?

Posted by: P-funk

it is a great tool for increasing your grip strength. both crushing grip and endurace if you do static holds with it. i love mine.

Posted by: Trusted Employe

Ya im gonna get them, even if i cant do them there going to be fun to have

if you can't do it. Close the thing with both hands and then do a static hold for as long as you can with one hand. Get two of them. Get the trainer so you can work on repping out and get one level above that so that you can do heavier static holds.

Posted by: PreMier

I took my trainer to the gym one day, and hardly anyone could close it Bitches.

Posted by: P-funk

the trainer??? jesus!!

Posted by: PreMier

Yea, tell me about it. Its all good though, everyone uses straps

Posted by: Lord_of_the_GYM

So these hand grippers, do they help in increasing the size of your forearm or just for improving grip? PLus where can I buy a pair from?

you can get them at ironmind.com

I don't know that I have seen any amazing forearm growth from them as much as I have from doing deadlifts and shrugs without wraps. But, they have helped improve my grip immensly which then I guess would translate to more weight being help and hopefully greater forearm hypertrophy. I never measured my forearms or took note of whethere they got any bigger form using the COC.

Posted by: Trusted Employe

To get two of them its gonna cust me 51$ u.s. i live in canada so its like 65 dollars canadian... im not so sure now

Posted by: Mudge

Dont buy a pair then, you only need one for one hand. When you are ready for the next one, then you can get it.

Doubt it, probably a nolvelty item. I thought that 5 or 6 had closed the best crusher but I dont follow that stuff really.

I can hold two 25 pound plates together long enough to put them on a weight tree about 10 feet away, and I can tear a small phone book in half

The freaky guys though can squeeze two 45s together and pass it around their body several times, thats grip!

Tough guy eh? I have been getting into grip strength a lot lately, and these are top of the line grippers. Here is one for you Mudge

I doubt my grip is all that, after all I use straps so I must be some sorta pussy right?

There is a plate loaded gripper at my gym but I haven't really made use of it regularly. Grip is great to have but also on some level I worry about RMI/carpel tunnel.

i was actually just thinking about this as well. what can one expect as one gets older and works one's grip to the point of superhuman strength in terms of health deterioration?

Posted by: Mudge

I had problems between training/typing/playing guitar. The human body is only made to do so much work, and our hands do a great deal of work already.

Yet another reason I lean towards lower volume work right now, and slowing down the movements forcing me to use lighter weights. My body has been warning me. Some like Ronnie seem to have super-human genes, some of us do not.

I'd pay serious money to meet a woman who could use that thing as a ThighMaster.

Sorta pussy!? Your like a gaping axe wound! lol No, but really, I dont think anyone on earth could close thta gripper. And I cant rip a pgone book in half, even a small one.

Posted by: Trusted Employe

yaa i just tried to rip my phone book didnt work

Posted by: Mudge

There is of course a trick to it, search Google. I haven't done anything over 1.5" or so though because I rip the cover, and then it gets hard when the cover is ripped because you need PINCH strength. Once you know the trick, its really pinch strength more than sheer ripping force, although that too is required.

The trick reduces the workload so you are tearing maybe 100 sheets at a time, not actually the entire book at once. Once you have torn through the first couple inches of paper you are then tearing all of the pages, but it becomes "easy" at that point. I did strain my pec a bit doing that.
