I really think this has to be true. So please help me confirm... There is a barbell at my gym that no one ever uses. Its black and is a little bit thicker than an average Olympic bar. I swear its heavier. I always try to avoid using this bar as does all the other guys at the gym, but eventually someone gets stuck with it. Well I got stuck with it last night. And it has to be heavier. I cant find anything about it on the net and I searched the forums and got nothing. So... is there a heavier, slightly thicker version of the olympic bar.

Its black, with a thicker grip, and more grip lines |XXXXX| than a normal olympic.

the bar should fear you, not the other way around! hmph *strokes beard*

it's cursed, evil. beware.

I was just informed by a PT at my gym (i called them) and he told me he's not positive, but its a powerlifting bar and its either 55lbs or 65lbs... i would believe 55lbs... but 65 is a little extreme... anyone ever heard?

If your gym has a scale in the weight room, weigh yourself then hop on the scale with the bar and figure out the difference. Let us know how much it weighs, sounds pretty heavy. We have a similar sounding bar at my gym, but it only weighs 33lbs.

Thicker bars make your grip stronger.

It is a dildo.

the bars will vary in weight, its no big deal. Is it an EZ-Curl bar?

Just find out how much the bar weighs, then adjust the weight you put on the bar accordingly. A no brainer...

Texas Power Bar, this is whats used for big benching or other lifting. There are also ultra-thick gripper bars.

- We have the 33lb bar too, but thats shorter.
- If it were a dildo and used as such, its users would be dead.
- A stronger grip is a good thing, but its awkward to use this bar, because of unfamiliarity.
- Its the same length as the olympic bar, just a little bit thicker.
- Its a straight barbell, not a curl bar.

I dunno, the scale idea is a good one. I'll try and find out tonight. Anyone else have any ideas???

maybe a 55lb squat bar?

or just a thicker bar for more grip work. makes benching harder.

Posted by: Pizzer

Wait, whats a squat bar... call me naive, but ive never heard. I got stuck using this bar yesterday when i was squatting!!! Maybe thats what it is?

Why weigh the bar with you holding it, and then weigh your self alone. Why not just weigh the f'in thing?

When I was shopping around for a Oly bar, I noted some bars were 40lbs and others were 42lbs and still others were 45lbs. (all without collars). I do not know if there is a 55lb bar, however, the bars with greater capacity (strength) have larger diameter grip surface. Like 1-1/8 inch vs 1-inch. Ivanko stresses the material density and diameter in their marketing stuff. It has been a while since I looked around at diff bars. If the "bar" is larger diameter, it makes sense that it would be heavier. Ten pounds seems like a lot though.

I have found that EZ Curl bars are not all the same wt either. I have two (one CAP and one Hampton). The Hampton bar weighs 25lbs and the CAP bar is 20lbs. Dimentionally they are nearly the same. The Hampton bar is about 2 inches longer and has brass bushings.

People, he said 33 pounds which sounds to me HOLLOW. There is one at the gym I go to.

But the heavy bars are usually Texas Power Bars, as stated above. I believe they get to about 67 pounds or so. I will look it up if I must, you can buy bars in various strengths.
