If I ignore my growling stomach in the midle of the night, am I likely to burn muscle?

Growing stomach doesn't mean anything because your stomach can growl even if you have eaten enough calories for the day.

Total food intake/calorie intake is what matters.

are you eating your last high protein/fat meal 30 minutes or so before bedtime ?

1 hour before bed I have a shake, sometimes cottage cheese. I am never hungry to the point of growling in the day.

Well, that is your problem - a shake will leave you hungry. Being a liquid it will not fill you up and will pass quickly through your stomach.

A solid protein with some fats +/- some fibre would hold you for much longer.

a shake is not enough....i have a can of tuna some cottage cheese and maybe some red potatoes or some other carbs like oatmeal etc...i also have 2 fish oil caps.....when i wake up in the morning i do look forward to my morning shake with water tho...

rubbish. I've been using blended protein shakes & fats exclusively for bedtime protein for the past decade.

The only time I'd ever woke up and couldn't fall asleep was on an extreme ketogenic diet. You need carbs.
