i have been on a high protein/low carb diet for about 3 weeks(5'8, 180lbs, 19% BF). this was recommended by the trainer at my gym. I am looking to gain some lean mass and lose body fat - first is this the right diet for my goals? second is their any soups out there that anybody could recommend that would fit into my diet?

i'd recommend making your own soup, you can control the ingredients that way, there are many recipes if you search the recipes forum. BTW, low carb high protein does seem to work for alot of people, just dont go too low on carbs, and keep them high in the meals prior to and immediately following your workout. I dont know about the whole "gain mass and lose fat" thing though, i think thats just a myth.

one more question - i get up at 6:45am - and i take my multi vitamin with a glass a water and i then i take one serving of my protein shake (20g per serv) about half hour before i got to the gym and when i get back from the gym i take another 2 servings(40g) of my protein shake and then i have to go to work. is this ok? i don't really have time to make something in the morning. i know you suggested meals with carbs before and after workout. should i have a meal with my second protein shake?

definitely, id have carbs before you workout as well, but in a shake form if you eat whole foods, they will not be digested in time. maybe a milk/whey/oats combo before you workout, and even the same post, however i'd toss a banana in there too. After your pwo shake, you would also want another meal around 1-1.5 hrs or so later, that would be a whole food meal.

i try to avoid butter as much as possible too. what i find is a great alternative to "buttered toast" is to spread Plain Yogurt on toast VS butter. Works 4 me anyway!!

Ive found that I can replace anything that uses butter with peanut butter.
Yes, if it's just a PB & Tst day? Otherwise, No thanks. When it comes 2a Poached Egg and a Ham slice with tst 4 breakfast... i'll skip the Pb and Reach for the plain yogurt 4a tst spread?
PB on a BP? dbl. No thanks, I have never heard of such thing? (note: i will skip the Kethcup on Eggs 2! lol.) Back 2 the Plain Yogurt idea... w/a BP.....a dallop takes the place of sour cream quite nicely.
Plain Yogurt instead of Sour Cream?
