cardio boredom..

Somedays I don't mind cardio and other days I HATE IT!!

Today was one of them days I just couldn't get past the mental block I usually get in the first few mins of running. Usually the adrenalin kicks in and off I sprint for 20-30 mins....but today I just couldnt get going.

I felt as though my energy levels were down but alot of it was boredom I think. I alternate my cardio from mixing it up or using one machine (treadmill, cross trainer, bike or stair climber) to do high interval training for 25-30 mins.

Was wondering what people thought if I were to start going to circuit training class (an hours session) or spinning class (stationary bike class) as my cardio sessions along with one day of running?? (I do them on my days inbetween weights)

Would I be burning as many cals and getting the same benefit
though??

Just wondered if you could all shed some light...or is it best to slog it on the machines??

If like today my mind and body said NO should I just stop feeling guilty and rest...starting again tomorrow?

Would you be burning enough cals from spinning? lol.... Spinning happens to be one of the most intense forms of cardio out there. I know people that do it religiously, and they swear by it. If your butt can take the abuse from the seat, then more power to ya. It DEFINITELY won't bore you, not with a good instructor anyways.

Circuit training, spinning or another class can keep it from becoming boring.

For cardio I usually do stairmaster, elliptical, treadmill, stationary bike at the gym. They have several TVs up and music blaring to help it not be so boring.

People watching while doing cardio is what keeps it interesting to me. The gym is a great place to people watch.

If you're into running - get your butt outside and enjoy the nice weather! I hate running on the dreadmill - especially for over an hour sometimes, but once the weather is nicer getting outside is the best. You can also go to a park and do fun things like sprints, hills and drills to mix it up and make it fun.

I'm a spinning instructor too and HIGHLY recommend it. The combination of the music and the workout make it an awesome time and a lot of fun.

Yeah your right about spinning!! I use to do it last year until the instructor left.....as you probably know an instructor can make a class!!

He teaches in the next town which about 20mins away...so I may go once a week and go circuit training on another day (the guy who does that is a slave driver...pure sweat for an hour!!)

Yeah I always have my MP3 player with me whilst running probably about time I got some new tunes on it to make my work out different....

I know what you mean about people watching its very entertaining...especially in my gym...there are some real arse holes lurking about!!

Thanks for the advice people...

xxxx

PS Its still abit chilli for running here in Wales...it warms up in June and is cold by end of July....but I will get my kitten butt out and about

Jumping rope is one of the highest caloric burning cardio exercises that you can do. It burns about as much as jogging (actually, a bit more).

I have a small TV in my weight room and do my cardio while watching Bloomberg.

Yeah my thoughts exactly.....Thats how I felt when I gave up this morning...thought you fatty get running!! But body said NO

Tomorrows a different story....I haven't skipped a rope since school....Maybe I should give it a go...

Cheers
