Nuts, in general, are very caloric dense. They are fine in small quantities.

Posted by: FishOrCutBait

No, i mean pistachios specifically, I know that they are very calorically dense, as they are mostly fat, im just asking if they are a good fat, I dont know their profile, with the mono and the poly unsaturated fats and what have you...

Isn't pistachio a nut

Of course it is a nut so.................

Posted by: FishOrCutBait

... I guess I'm not being clear. Is pistachio a good nut as opposed to almonds? Or, as opposed to other nuts?

Nuts in general are great. Sure, some nuts are better than others.

Walnuts and Almonds being the best.

Technically peanuts are legumes, however they resemble the nuts more than they do legumes, so we use them a nuts, another fat source.

Whats the dif between nuts and legumes physically and nutrition wise?

Posted by: FishOrCutBait

legumes are more carb-y, i thinksh

I think that peanuts are to legumes like avocados are to fruits.
In other words they belong but are different than most of thier "family members".

I think walnuts have the best health benefits... almonds are great too. I use almonds, walnuts, and natty pb everyday.

I will never understand why people eat the red pistachios. Why color your lips and hands in red food dye if you don't have to?

Id go with peanuts.. 50mg magnesium per ounce or Brazil nuts 151 mg per oz. Pumpkin seeds are great too at 152 mg per oz of mag. Dunno about pisstachios.

Pistachios are natural in color with green nut meats. The finest pistachios are natural in color and naturally opened. Red pistachios and machine opened nuts are generally done to hide imperfections in the shell of the nut and improperly kept trees.

Not sure if this is what you mean exactly but, the shell actually starts to turn red and to make them more appealing(back in the 30's or sumthing) they dyed the whole thing red, as you said, to hide imperfections and make them more appealing. gotta love Food Network!
