My question is, "Who the hell is Jorge Piedra?"

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2034778

My answer is, "A scapegoat". They're not gonna bust any big names, that would just be shooting themselves in the foot.

Well Rick Sutcliff (ESPN analyst) says there will be some big names announced within the next two weeks. Apparently being an insider, he knows something we don't know.

I think he was just called up from the minors. He said it was from a bottle of supps he bought before the ban. Yeah they said it probably would not be the last. But I bet you don't see any big names either.

I think this will become a very common reason.

What I found interesting is that the minor league's policy would have banned him for 5 more days.

The gear doesn't help you hit a 90 mph fast ball!!!! It Might go a little farther once you do hit it though!

It not only gives u a faster bat, which i think would aid in that, but almost most importantly it boosts confidence, which is huge.

A fast bat do esn't equate to much if you can't put the lumber on the leather!!!!

No it dont, but it can help u catch up to a pitch u may have otherwise been late on. Not to mention the fact that you can wait back longer and be better able to identify the pitch and determine whether or not itd be worth your swing.

Oh God.
I REALLY don't want to get into this arguement, cuz if you do a search, you'll see i've already debated this point to a 1,000 deaths.

DevilDog is right, bro.
All the bat speed in the world won't help you "catch up" to a pitch. We're talking nanoseconds here, you either see it or you don't. In the millisecond it takes from leaving the pitchers hand to the catcher's mit, the batter must decide whether he's swinging or not.
It's not "well, this pitch looks outside...OH WAIT, ITS A STRIKE...
*Swings bat*"

I don't know if any of that made sense, but the point was repeating what the Dog was saying. ALL the batspeed in the world is NOT going to put your bat on the ball. What it WILL do is MAYBE give you more pop on the ball if you do make contact, but not all that much. There's SO many factors depending on jacking the ball out that straight strength is actually watered down, and not NEARLY what the media makes it out to be.

I'm with ya! Now the gear might get your fat ass around the bases a little quicker but you have to "get on" first

Batspeed is what makes Barry Bonds special. They did a feature on Baseball Tonight and broke it down and showed how becuase Bonds' bat is so quick he was able to wait back longer and decide whether to swing or not. They showed multiple examples of when guys began their swings and compared it to Bonds who clearly begins his swing way later. If the guy misses the ball because hes 2 nano-seconds late, then a 2 nano-seconds quicker swing would have connected. It is what it is.

Youre right its milliseconds, which makes each extra one all that more important. How can you say "batspeed doesnt help you catch up to a pitch"? Thats like saying speed wont help you cover a good receiver.

You still have to have the hand-eye cordination to put the bat on the ball. Steroids will not help that!!!!

Posted by: IainDaniel

Problem is is disconnect skill what they already have, and Performance.

No one is arguing there Hand-eye Coordination, of course that is good or they wouldn't be there. But the abiltity to get the Bat into the contact area can be increased with the help of Steroids. When they go hand in hand you see the Dramatic increase in numbers ie.Barry Bonds which are still climbing even though he is at a point in his career where most would considered Retirement.

You act as though im saying anyone who takes steroids will become a Major League baseball player.

Posted by: devildog88

No, I am just pointing out that there is so much more involved in hitting the ball that steroid use would play a very small part if any in the equation.
