how do they measure the calories of food?

is their an instrument you can buy to measure your meals at home?

I believe that they burn it and measure how much energy is given off... Im pretty sure you'd need a lab for that.... sorry bro

If some of the foods you buy dont have nutritional labels, go to http://www.nutritiondata.com

Usually something like bomb calorimetry (they burn it and calculate how much energy is given off).

Not unless you have some cool lab equipment lying around!

Go to:
www.nutritiondata.com
www.calorieking.com
www.nutridiary.com

and find the values of your individual foods then add them together.

Yeah, we kinda did something like that when I was in highschool, burnt peanuts etc in biology class-ha, education at it's best. As far as calculating how many calories a piece of food has you'll pretty much have to do it yourself. Try and be as accurate as possible from reading the nutritional info on packets. Remember, 1g of carbs/protein equals 4 calories, and 1g of fat is 9 calories. Good luck.
