Lance Armstrong says this year's Tour will be his last race

Posted by: bio-chem

hell 7 sounds like a good number, really rub it into the frenches nose as he is the greatest cyclist ever.

Lance rocks.

Supposedly he doesn't even care about winning this one - he's going to make sure one of his team mates does - proving that they are also the best team ever since they can help anyone win, not just him.

Posted by: bio-chem

so you think this anouncement hurts his chancces of winning again?

drug testing regulations have probab;y goten tighter and he is scared to get caught and tarnish his name and his 7 wins. My guess is he tries to do this one without anything and doesn't win and says that he just did it to have a good time and wanted it to be his last.

It's hard to believe he's done any drugs. If you read about the workouts and discipline the guy has plus the way he prepares for the race it's not surprising he wins all the time. Plus he gets tested more than any athlete in the world. People show up randomly at his door with cups for him to pee in. I think he's just a phenomenal cyclist.

I don't know, there are a few reasons why I say that:

1) there are ways around drug tests. look at how long balco got away with what they did.

2) I may be wrong but i don't think there is a test for blood doping. is there?

3) he destroys the guys that are taking all the shit!! there is no way he can be that talented. I am all for genetic freaks but i just don't see how a guy taking everything under the sun not only looses to him but looses by a considerable magin.

I may be wrong though. I would love to be wrong about it actually.

yes their is a test for blood doping. his former teammate tyler hamilton just got a 2 year suspension for it. the thing is lance trains at high altitudes year round so he naturally has high red blood cell counts, the benifit you get from blood doping. the truth is he trains harder and longer than anyone else. i think he is clean, and ill believe that until a test comes out positive. the guy is an animal.

I'll be watching it - that's all I know... either way he's done great!

in a sport where there is no drug testing. remember lance armstrong is the most tested athlete in the world, and it is all random.

i'm not sure but i think EPO is a drug that cancer patients use, i think he takes EPO

Posted by: bio-chem

he is not allowed to take epo even if prescribed by a doctor for cancer. he took it when he was not competing during the cancer but has had to stop. he is not even allowed testosterone replacement therapy. and the guy is missing one nut. thats why he lost 20lbs of lean body mass after the cancer.

He does the altitude training plus the guys VO2 max is like 85 or something ridiculous like that. The highest elite endurance athletes in the world have something like 70-75 for the most part. It just puts him at a higher level. The guy will go out for 5-6 hours almost every day on his bike and actually ride the Tour course to prepare for it so he knows every turn and potential problem. He's a machine.

Also I am responding to P-Funk's following reply to the above.

Lance Armstrong may or may not have used drugs, but he does have a major, unique physiological edge over the other best cyclists in the world.

His body produces a very low level of Lactose. This is the chemical that causes the burning sensation in your muscles and give you that "burn" feeling (yes, you folks know more about this than me).

His body converts oxygen from the lungs (VO2) (sic?) better than 99% of human being on this Earth.

I honestly believe that is why he can just blow others away at the final legs.

If you want to read a book that will make you respect, Armstrong, and the sport of Cycling, read, "It's Not About The Bike."

The battle with Cancer made you feel that you actually had Cancer and were in the fight to beat it.

That is when you know....a book has reached you.

I work in TV and we did the coverage on that race. What a disaster. We barely got any video. We did get some of Lance though.
