First day training for a while... I'm still half-sick, but I'm better, about 70-80% normal. Mostly a cough and sore throat now. I have lost a decent amount of weight, regrettably... Sunday to Wednesday I probably ate 1/3 of the normal calories I have per day. Bodyweight after squats today was 205lbs, usually it's 209-213lbs.
Speed Box Squats to low box (~12-14") 45lbs x 2 sets x 12 reps 135lbs x 6 135lbs x 3 185lbs x 3 (wrist wraps on) 225lbs x 3 (belt on) 225lbs x 3 (briefs on) 275lbs x 6 sets x 2 reps - 1-1.5 min RI's Hyper Extensions +25lbs plate x 8 +50lbs EZ curl bar x 8 +70lbs EZ curl bar x 3 sets x 6 reps (holding it in elbows, like a Zercher Squat) Declined Weighted Situps +25lbs plate x 8 +60lbs DB x 3 sets x 10 reps Cambered Bar Shrugs 135lbs x 12 225lbs x 10 (straps) 275lbs x 2 sets x 12 reps 295lbs x 10 or 12 stretch & grip work Going to put the battery charger on the bike tonight and take it out tomorrow. |

its an ez curl bar. its like 32lbs or whatever. i just hold it in my elbows, and it misses the pegs

Yes, I've been keeping an eye on you. You're folding over on the ascent in those squats. Weak upper back and abs. More high box squatting and you need to hit abs as heavy as you can for sets of 8-12 reps, 3 or 4 times a week. Alright, I'm deadlifting the next couple weeks, but I'll hit high boxes a bit more when I go back to squatting heavy, and add abs another day. And stop taking 3 weeks off everytime you get the sniffles or you'll end up like that metrofag who gets pissed at guys curling in the squat rack when he can't even dunk 300 lbs. Hah, who's this? Now don't shoot me with that gun. Don't worry, the advice is appreciated. Did you tell Tim about the gun? |

1. Don't take time off from heavy squatting in exchange for pulling. You can do both on the same day. At Lexen when we take a heavy squat we also take a heavy pull right after. You can go heavy squat/heavy dead week one, light squat week 2, heavy squat/heavy dead week 3, etc. Maybe throw some speed pulls in there. Or you can try light squat/heavy pull week one, heavy squat/light pull week 2, etc.
I won't be completely not squatting, but I'll probably pull first when I'm fresh, then do some moderate sets of 3-5 on squats after, and other times I'll switch it up like you've mentioned. I usually do my speed pulls on Friday and ME work Monday You don't need a separate ab day. Do them at the end of each workout. Better yet, do them at the beginning of your workout when you're fresh and hit them as heavy as you can. I know, that's not what I meant, I meant I was going to add them to the end of one of my other days, or beginning. 2. Inside joke, you don't know him. 3. I told Tim about the gun and we decided that when you go on your rampage, Lynn will be the first on your list. Are Todd and Erik still lifting anywhere? |

Good pulling there, Sean. Although in that 1st set, how do you keep the weights and your feet from falling off the wall?

Nice job, Twatwaffle (new word I picked up on Outlaws). Those greens only deload about 50 lbs. Move your feet in so your arms are hanging straight down, you're pulling with your hands out too wide. Point your toes out a bit so you can fire your hamstrings. And for Christ's sake, stop with the multiple bobbs, you're losing your stretch reflex. Take all your air in before you bend over, one bob, then rip it up, like this dumbass. I had to pull this with Chuck breathing down my neck after I just got done squatting 465 plus 200 lbs of band tension.

Nice job on that squat. Bar speed was slow, but you muscled it up to the top. That was a good lift.

Somebody's been getting strong. I haven't popped in for quite a while, but it's nice to see you progressing. I'm particularly impressed with your squat, which was very deep for a PL style squat. Totally legit sir; well done.

What are your stats since yous topped training conventional and went to powerlifting?
My bodyweight's around 205ish right now, but I've been as heavy as 213... Trying to get to 220. My raw gym PR's are 460/295/510... Hopefully I'll get a 530 before too long. BTW i dig the trainer chick int he background...tell her she needs to wear tighter clothes for the camera haha! Heh, yeah she's actually a pretty well know trainer. Trains a lot of fitness/figure competitors. |

I've determined my most likely weakness is my hips, and my dominant lower back wants to take over the lift.

Wrong answer. Your stance is too close for your hips to even come into play. It's your glutes, hamstrings and abs. You're also more hunched over than ever before, even at the start of the lift. Get your chest up and torque your elbows down. Low box squats will help.
You're not using your glutes and hams on your pulls either. Your ass shoots straight up as soon as the bar leaves the floor. Seitzer's not watching you? |

Oh, Pete, I also meant to ask should I do singles, doubles or triples on these, and about what % of my 1RM free squat?
Also, it looks like you're probably going to meet Carter Friday if Jim hasn't mentioned it. He told me Jim's taking him over there. Carter said Jim said he's too old and out of the powerlifting scene to give useful advice anymore. |

We're having lots of fun with Carter. Friday he was facing the opposite direction from everyone else on the deadlift platform. Tim told him he could not do that because we're using a left handed deadlift bar, not a right handed one. He bought in to this for about 15 minutes before we finally told him we were fucking with him.
Also, next time you see him tell him not to wear his suit and wrist wraps in the car ride on the way to the gym. |

Your stance is pretty wide on your deadlifts. I think if you brought your stance in and brought your hands in you could get a few pounds out of that
