Deadliftin'

A couple questions:

First, what is the best deadlift routine for strength and power? I was thinking 5 sets of 5 (this after a couple of warm-up sets of course)...

And secondly, I was thinking about incorporating chains into my deadlift routine. Does anybody here use chains? I need to know what size they need to be. I recall reading something about two 5 foot segments of 5/8 in, that sound right?

I know they don't need to be that long really for deads, but I'd like to be able to use them eventually for bench and squats as well.

Thanks.

WTF are chains for?

Accomodating resistance.

A strength training technique.

chains are connected to the ends, when the bar goes down the chains pile up making the bar lighter, when you go up it gets heavier so you train for explosiveness.

forget the chains...for mass i would suggest reps between 4-8 pyramiding up in weight....if u dont have experience deadlifting i would suggest goin very slow with little weights till u have your form down pat...form is very important

chains are extremely effective if used properly. What are you pulling right now?

However I also think it should be for more advanced trainers or to break plateaus. Bands are good to use too and more convenient for the gym setting

I've never done a 1RM on deadlift, but I can do sets with 275 easily enough...

so I'm guessing around 350 without a belt.

I'd recommend 3 sets of 2 reps each with about 90% of your 1RM for strength. I start that tomorrow (it was going to be today, but I'd rather do it when I have energy).
