To eat unhealthily, or not to eat at all?

If you were forced to choose between eating something unhealthy (say sugar cookies) or not eating anything at all, what would you choose and why?

Posted by: P-funk

I would choose to eat. If there was no way to get anythign healthy I would eat cookies or ice cream or whatever in an effort to prevent going catabolic at all cost.

At school, there's really nothing that's good for me that I would actually eat, so it's either eat nothing, or buy a couple cookies and some water. Thank you very much for your response.

why not bring something??

Posted by: pumpthatiron

bring what? I have to eat twice in school to make it every 3 hours, what should i take to school?

Posted by: Squaggleboggin

I'm a very picky eater. In other words, I have to have the right things, and at the right temperatures (cold chicken is nasty; same with pizza; warm drinks are also nasty). I have never been able to find anything to bring to school that's healthy.

How the heck do you have school for nine hours?

you could bring a protein shake (MRP) to down inbetween classes. Or, protein powerd and an apple with some fish caps or nuts. Or, last straw, protein bars.

I for one have no such foods (protein shakes/powders/bars), and basically how I get my protein is by eating a lot of meat (chicken, steak, burgers), which I can't do at school.

lol, dude, I would pack up a few burgers and pound those things down inbetween class. Now that is bad ass!! Some red meat inbetween math and english class....hell yeah!!

I can completely relate. Here at college, protein is so hard to get... some days all I get is like 100g from WHEY for the day. So frustrating. Carbs and fat come easy. That is why starting next week I will be working hard all summer to pack on alot before I start school again, and to make alot of money to BUY good food DURING school when I can.

Posted by: Squaggleboggin

Haha, that would be awesome. Plus, no one would mess with someone who eats raw meat...

Posted by: Pylon

Don't forget tuna foil packs. Easy to handle, no draining, no mess, no fridge needed. Or hard boil some eggs. If you care enough, you can find something to eat. I travel a lot, and I often slip a ziploc bag of chik breasts in my laptop bag and eat them on the plane. It gets some odd looks, but I'm not there to impress anyone.

Posted by: Squaggleboggin

My problem is just that I'm so picky. Argh...

I hate tuna and boiled eggs. Chicken breast in a baggie doesn't sound very appealing to me either.

dude, if you are that picky of a eater, your pretty much SOL then. Try and
talk your mom into buying you some supps. it would more than likely be cheaper than what she is spending in lunch money for you to eat cookies!

You'll get over it someday prolly. My prob is I am pre-med, cafeteria sux, so I need to BUY protein-rich foods, but I quit my job to keep up with all my hard classes. So now I have to make enough money this summer to save up to keep paying for food, car, insurance, and gas through the next school year.

If you are really serious about this then you need to make 100% commitment to your eating.

I made the mistake of eating wrong when I first started working out and make NO GAINS (other than a little increase in strength) for nearly 8 months!

You have to pack your own food. Make it the night before.
Take some

rice
veggies
sliced ham or cottage cheese or chicken breast.

Explain to your mum the situtation and ask her to help you out here or use your pocket money to buy the food.

Do you think Arnold ate cookies and burgers to get where he is?

good luck.

Always choose to eat. When your body has been without for 4 plus hours anything is better than nothing.

Stop being a vagina and just eat right. You either have this dream and want to fulfill it or you don't. There isn't a chance in hell I say "I don't like this" or "I don't like that." Thats ridiculous.

Posted by: Alaric

Yeah last year in my senior year I ran out of supplements. What I did was I used to buy a shitload of chicken breast cold cuts, and I'd just eat in the middle of class. I had 4 classes straight with no lunch (so the principle gave me an exception to eat in class whenever I wanted)

Posted by: WATTS

i know how it is with school and eating. im a senior and i only have 5 classes yet i still find time to eat 2-3 times lol. i pack some brown rice, sandwiches, sometimes ill pound a can of tuna at my car at snack then rince my mouth with some mouth wash, nobody likes the smell of tuna on the breath. lol. but you just have to figure something out to get down food at school..

Posted by: overthepond

So many people ask this question....I think you are just lazy and are looking for an excuse to eat shitty food. It isn't hard. Lunch meat is easy and quick. Ever hear of a sandwich? Even if you can't eat in class you can eat in between them. As sox said, stop being a vagina and just eat right!

you need to learn to eat for function vs flavor. everything that you eat doesn't have to taste great. this sport is ALL about nutrition and feeding your muscles. going to the gym and lifting weights is the EASY part

Thank you for saying this.

No one said it was going to be easy. Half the shit I eat I don't like, but I do it because I know I have to.

Posted by: Fashong

... Bring mayonase with your tuna or chicken breast in a can!

Well said!

If it was between cookies or not eating I would go for not eating.. But we probably have different goals. I wouldn't put myself in that situation though, I always bring shakes and fruit and stuff like that. Yeah, you need to get over being a picky eater if you're serious about lifting There must be something better you can eat in school. You could bring nuts or fruit if you don't use protein shakes.

for sure...got a cooler in my trunk and when i dont have a car to take, i carry the f-ing thing. its something you have to do if you want to make optimal gains...school should be no excuse to eat like shit..there is always a way to get something heathy in you either in classes or between classes.

Posted by: musclepump

Sometimes, even if I only have one class that day, I still bring my cooler. Sure, I could eat before and after and have no problems, but damn! The looks I get are just too awesome

Posted by: njdevil13

yeah, you eat for fuel rather for pleasure. it sucks, but if you really want it, then you ll eat the bland stuff to fuel your muscles optimally. oatmeal isnt exactly my choice of gourmet food, but it fuels my workouts.

Posted by: robousy

I pack two meals and a shake to last the day:

1) Cttg Chs. Oatmeal. Nuts.
2) Shake
3) Rice - chicken - veggies.

Takes me about 3 minutes in the morning to stick all the material in some plastic containers.

Cook several chicken breasts on sunday night and leave them in the fridge so you can grab one in the morning.
