Benching question

Hey guys, I've noticed that when I benchpress if I do each repetition on the fast side, it is much easier for me than going at a slower rate. My question is, if i go fast paced on the bench press, and do the entire motion properly, is this worse than doing it slowly? Are there pros or cons to doing it at a faster speed.

Duncans donuts posted something on this a few weeks ago. If you are using heavy enough weight you shouldn't be able to go fast. The more weight there is the more resistence there is and the less speed you can preform the same motion with. (Assuming you use the same form). Though, I guess you could make an arguement for either side. If you don't believe in specificty and are a powerlifter then going fast is what you would want to do. I personally do believe in it though, so I would say use a heavy enough weight that you go slow. I hope that makes sence.

Yep. It must be a pretty light weight to go fast, speed training is done with about 50% of your max.

dont go fast or slow, just go at an even pace, if i bench 50% of my max i try to do it at the same rate as if i was maxing out

I feel rep speed should be varied just like rep ranges. You work the muscle from different angels with different exercises and you should work the muscles with different rep ranges and rep speeds as well. And as it was said above, your rep speed is impacted by the amount of wt used.

Thats not always the case, speed training has it purpose and place.

A bodybuilder probably wouldn't care about those things, which I assume is his point of view.
