Hey guys, I need help figuring out how best to diet…. I am trying to lose some bf and keep my strength up. I posted my background here.

A little about me, I am six feet tall, my weight fluctuates around 152 or so. I am not so sure about bf… last time I had it done, and that was a while ago, it was about 19%, blech!

Okay…. I know I am going to catch a lot of grief for the way my day is structured (I almost am afraid to post it, I can feel the beating coming) however, lets work on one issue at a time. At least I have a structured workout routine; at the current time my diet is a complete disaster!

Monday thru Friday I wake up at 3:00, usually out of bed by 3:15, usually to the gym by about 3:50. I do about 45 minutes running on the treadmill and about 45 minutes of weights. I do varying routines of 4-5 exercises, four sets each for each body part. My current split is shoulders, chest, legs, back and arms. Then in the evening, if I am feeling up to it I go back to the gym and do some sort of cardio for about an hour. I know it sounds a bit extreme, but keep in mind, I race jetskis… That is about 1,000 pounds of me and machinery that I am piloting around a course at 60 to 70 mph!! I race against men and they don’t pull any punches! So I have to be strong and have extreme endurance.

On the weekends if I am not on the water I will usually go to the gym and do some sort of cardio.

Basically I need to figure out what to eat and when. I will get up when ever I need to in order to get the timing right. I just need a comprehensive plan that makes sense. Right now I live on a diet of eggs, oatmeal, chicken, green salads, some protein powder. But in no particular order and probably way too much. I also snack a lot on popcorn and soy cakes… I know, yummy!!

Also should I be using supplements of any sort? Creatine maybe?

Anyway, if there is any more info that you guys need to help me out, I will post it.

Thanks in advance!

You sound awesome to me....I mean, your schedule does. Im no expert but if your wanting to lose more bodyfat try eating what your eating divided up by about 5 or 6 meals in a day. Try to balance out your carbs/proteins and maybe cut out the carbs in the later meals of the day. With the routine you mentioned you should KILL the bodyfat but you have to eat no matter what...eating RIGHT will be the key.

Well at 152, doing the amount of excersize you do, and being as lean as your are, you should have a pretty high RMR/metabolism. Hope you get enough rest regulary if your getting up at 3. Regarding diet, the stickies at the top of the forum have alot of usefull info. Also, popcorn, as long as its fat free, is a very low calorie snackcompared to most and is probably better than the soy cakes. The foods you are eating now are very nutritious so you have a good start.

I think you are overtraining and overtrained.

19% is pretty dare good, especially for a woman past her 20s.

Your bodyfat % is a function of both pounds of fat and MUSCLE. At 152 and 19%, that is 29 pounds of fat and 123 of muscle.

Have you given any thought to the fact that in training seven days a week ( including SIX DAYS OF CARDIO) you are likely BURNING MUSCLE, which has the affect of either keeping your bodyfat% the same or increasing it.

Say the cardio burns 2 pounds of fat during some period of time. What happens if it also burns two pounds of muscle? Now you are at 148 with 27 pounds of fat and 121 of muscle. Do the math. Your bodyfat percentage is almost the same, so what good have you done?

In its simplest form, I think the first step you should take is 1) Take a week off from ALL training to give your body some time to recover ( and I bet after a week, you will feel and LOOK much better) and 2) Switch to a program of 3 or 4 days of weights and MUCH fewer days than 6 of cardio.

With a diet that is anywhere near reasonable, this should result in retaining and building more muscle ( not burning it off as you are doing now). More muscle then leads to better fat burning capabilities ( much more so than alot of cardio) and the combination of this will result long term in a lower bodyfat % and a much more aesthetically pleasing physique.
