Jim Brown

Posted by: topolo

barry, followed my Marcus Allen

Posted by: gr81

what about the Juice!!! OJ was straight ill

Posted by: TJ Cline

I cant vote on this one; the options you gave are unbelievably limited.

Jim Brown. running for over 100 yards in 58 games, played in 9 pro bowls, had the season rushing record 8 years out of the 9 he played, holds the record for most consecutive seasons leading the league,#2 for most games, 200 or more rushing, career( OJ was #1...you forgot him too ), #1 at most seasons leading league-touchdowns,#2 for most touchdowns in a game, rushed 1863 yards in only 14 game season ( yard/avg 6.4 per carry) and also rushed 1527 yards in a 12 game season ( yard/avg 5.9) and career yard/per. carry avg.5.2 the highest ever.

Posted by: musclepump

Barry followed closely by Tony Dorsett

I could have sworn barry, emmitt, and walter all had more than 75 100 yard rushing games. SO WHA THA FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!

Sorry but this is easy, look it up he rushed 5.2 average over 9 years with a season high of 6.4...

George Orwell 1984...read it then talk to me

The point is Jim Brown 1960. He would not have did what he did in this day of age.

War leads to more war.

No you are wrong again, in his generation he was god. And he was the best who ever lived. Ask any pro running back who was the best of all time and most will say Jim Brown.

Just because Orwell wrote it doesn't mean it makes sense... lol

bro I have read many of you're posts and I respect you; you are very smart and you think for yourself and that is rare. Orewell was the origonal anti-war activist...read 1984 it is a wonderful book.....peace

Posted by: topolo

I still don't understand what Jim Brown ruined???

Posted by: Todd_

sweetness didnt shy away from collisions broos

fierce

Posted by: bigss75

Jim Brown only played 9 seasons too. He quit just cause he could. He was also a fullback not a halfback like the guys most people are mentioning

Right on bigss...Jim was the God of football and he never needed Nizoral shampoo, like some I will not name.

Posted by: Decker

Walter Patton. Good one. Sweetness was the most complete hb ever to play. I never saw Sayers play but I heard he was ok too.

Posted by: bio-chem

guys give it up for barry sanders, like brown his career ended early, but this guy was a human highlight reel for a decade, averaging over 1500 yrds per season during his career, and all of this when everyone knew the ball was going to barry. no offensive line to speak of, and the passing game was only decent during a small portion of his career. had he played longer emmit smith would not be close to holding the all time career rushing yards record.

Posted by: Flex

1. Jim Brown
2. Walter Payton
3. Barry Sanders

Saying "Brown wouldn't do the same in today's day and age" isn't a fair statement, because he DIDNT PLAY in today's day and age. Babe Ruth was so amazing, because he was SO MUCH BETTER than others during his time period, which makes him the best ballplayer ever.

So, Brown was #1.
Sweetness, who's a close #2, was the most complete ever.
Barry Sanders, who NEVER had ANY kind of offense around him, was simply unbelievable to watch. Put Sanders on Emmit's Cowboys and he would've been #1.

With a great front line Barry would have rushed 2200 yards easy in for his highest season, and his season average would have jumped from 1500 to 1700...

Wasn't Jim Brown a Full Back?

You are correct, they all did. Emmit had 78, he played in "twice" as many games as Brown did to get that #. Emmit isn't even close to Jim, Barry, or Payton.

Payton had 77, he played 4 more seasons then Brown ( remember Jim plalyed in 4,12 game seasons and 5, 14 game seasons...118 games total).

Barry had 76, he played 10 ( giving him 42 more games than Jim played in) Barry was Great...if he had a good line he would have rushed over 100x100yard games.

Jim rushed 58, 100 yard games in only 118 games thats over 49% of his total games . Barry is the only one close with 47.5%.

excellent post very informative

I don't what his numbers were, but I really enjoyed watching Earl Campbell, even though us Steelers fans didn't like the Oilers all that much. But that dude was a mad man with the ball. I was only a kid then, but back in the 70's kids actually watched football, knew the players, and the teams, I think that's all gone to shit now with free agency and the emergance of youth soccer replacing football.

Earl was a 5 time pro bowler, rushed for 1,934 yards in 1980, second most ever at the time, he also had four 200+ games in his career.

True

Walter Payton will always be tops in my books, regardless of statistics.
Earl Campbell is my second favorite, just watching him plow motherfuckers rattles my bones. And I've met him in person so I know he exists.
Barry Sanders, definitely wonderful to watch old highlights of him dancing through defensive lines like he was a polar opposite of any one trying to tackle him.

Posted by: Big Smoothy

Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, Earl Cambbel, Gale Sayers, Eric Dickerson, Emmitt Smith, and many others.

Posted by: gr81

the Juice gets no love, lets not forget about all he did for the Game and his position. OJ has to be in the top three of any list, no doubt about it!

Posted by: milwood

sweetness gets a top vote from me
Jim Brown is the King
Barry Sanders is perhaps the freakiest of all
...and damn, I miss football season.

And Animal Farm! Pretty good book when studying European history

Barrence Sanders
(Would have set records that held for years)
if he didn't fag out!

Posted by: min0 lee

Barry Sanders would also set records too.

Barry is the best "Runner" but all things being considered, blocking, receiveing etc., the answer is Sweetness."

did OJ do something bad ?

Posted by: The Monkey Man

Barry used to run 85-90 yards laterally,

just to get 40 linear yards down the field...

He used to train @ World gym in Rochester MI
(Currently... Rochester Athletic Club)

I watched him empty out the plate trees to do hack squats one day
he layered the machine till plates were dripping off of it, and did like six sets of 20 or something, and you could tell that was maintenance, he didn't even break a sweat

BarrySanders Vid 2

These aren't the best vids of Barry's glory
I like the move against TB where towards the end of the run,
He is moving OK, then he hits the sideline and just explodes, then
he decelerates, and then jumps back up to speed just losing the defense

Badass -

Jim Brown was the greatest of all time. Ask Barry Sanders, he'll tell you the same thing. Or, his dad will.

Posted by: boilermaker

I loved watching Barry run, but he quit on his team. Emmitt Smith thanks the lord every day for this.

Very true I heard Barry and his dad say this on TV

Posted by: ontime

You know i love these guys who voted for Emmitt Smith, IF Franco Harris would of stuck around another 50 years he would have won the title to.

Gotta say as a Chicago person I'd put Walter second to Barry Sanders

Earl was always a favorite of mine. I saw him run up the front of Bronco cb Steve Foley and down his back. The trainers had to sop up Foley w/ a sponge to get him off the field.

Posted by: CancerNV

OJ Simpson and LT should be choices.

Posted by: mattd46612

Eric Dickerson if he wasnt a fool would be up there. Jim Brown outran or flattened everyone. Barry Sanders was just magic to watch. Paytons ypc was nothing near impressive but he was a tough SOB and was around for quite a while. Emmitt is shit, doing what he did with a stacked team like that all his career.

Posted by: JOHNYORK

jim browns game couldve easily played today like formena said he was a god back than....barry sanders has to be best rb playing with the LIIIOOOONS he did what he did what a joke idk how he did it i wish i ahd all his tapes so i could watchem.....gale sayers was amzing also injury cut career short tho i think he played less than 3 yrs??? marcus allen most complete back ever blocking recieving everything.....eric dickerson is up their this poll needs at least 6 choices

Posted by: goandykid

Barry was my vote, only 9(?) years with the LIONS and still managed to come close to the record.

But to bring up an interesting note, Marshall Faulk was not only a solid back, but top 16 in receiving
