Hey i was just wondering why you are suppose to drink 2 - 3 litres of water a day when ur trying to bulk, does water play an important part in building muscles or is it just a part of keeping healthy?

I heard from someone u are suppose to drink heaps of water because of all the creatine you are taking (thats if u are taking it that is)

Many people do not get enough water - and 2-3 litres would be the minimal that someone who was active would want. Water is essential for BOTH muscle building and for your health!!

When you don't drink enough water your blood volume decreases - which isn't healthy - so your body tries to prevent this by drawing water out of other areas. At first it will draw it from places that are not a big deal (between cells) but eventually it will have to resort to drawing it out of the cells themselves (including your MUSCLES!).

When you 'dehydrate' your muscles you affect all the things that your muscles are trying to do.... See, as it was said, your body is mostly water and your muscles especially so (about 75% water). Nearly every cellular process in your body needs this water to occur - it acts to 'bathe' your cells to acta as a medium for the cells chemical/ion reactions to take place... So hydration is really important in forming the proteins that your muscle is made from and without enough water in your muscle cells, protein synthesis is decreased and you will not grow as much.

Water is also important in storing energy for your body (glycogen). This energy is also very important in helping you workout (so you can stimulate muscle growth) and also recovering from your workouts. Working out will dehydrate you, Dehydration essential for every process in the body!

Also - when you are active you generally need more water. This is because you lose more water through sweating.

Creatine increases the water that is held in your cells so you do need to increase water intake when you take creatine.... But it is not the only reason why you need more water.
