Should I be concerned about mercury content in canned tuna? I have been consuming about a can a day (5 oz), where as I was reading the average person shouldnt consume more than 12 ounces/week. Any thoughts on this?

Stick with chunk light tuna. It has alot less mercury than albacore.

Tweaked,

I used to work with a guy who ate canned tuna and brown rice 5 days a week, for lunch. His eyes started turning yellow from jaundice, and he disappeard. I didn't know him very well, but I've always wondered if the constant canned tuna was a contributing factor. I'm not kidding about this.

I think 3-4 cans of tuna a week is good.. no more than 4, especially since you may be eating salmon, white fish, and other fish which may contain smaller but yet some amounts of mercury. But with tuna, salmon, chicken, lean red meat, turkey, whey, milk, beans, and so many other clean protein sources around, you shouldn't have to worry about eating only 3-4 cans a week. Dempsters Whole Wheat Bread has 5g's of protein per slice (I only realised that recently).
