Doctor Rant

Tuesday night, I'm sitting on the floor in my daughters room putting some blades on her new ceiling fan. I stand up and WHAM! My back goes kaput. I can't even stand up straight or walk. I get up Wednesday morning and look in the phone book for a chiropractor. I notice a picture of one. His son is in the cub scouts with my son and I did not know he was a chiropratic doctor. So I called to make an appoinment with him. It turns out that he is out of network with my insurance but I tell them I don't care at this point because I need some relief and I will worry about it later. Turns out it cost me $165 Wednesday, $60 yesteday and it will be another 60 late this afternoon. Now this can get expensive. So in talking to him yesterday, he said some insurances will accept them if you request it. So I call my insurance and ask them how to do it. They tell me, my primary care physican (which is the one I go to for my HBP)has to sumbmit a form for them to accept. So I call him this morning and the lady tells me he does not do this, that he would refer me to therapy. I tell her therapy is not what I need. So guess what the fuck I am going to do. I am going to switch primary doctors. I feel he has no right in denying me who I want to see. So now I'm stuck. Either keep paying, which I can't afford to do or not get the treatment I need. I'm fired up!

1. Go buy an inversion table for $199.0... or...

2. Throw out your wire spring mattress and get a foam or air bed...

3.
(Preferred)
Adjust your WO to strengthen the muscles that are being overlooked...

Your chiro is all about telling you how out of balance you are, but they never tell you how to strengthen the neglected muscles which will bring you back into balance...

I don't think DG was looking for tips on feeling better. He's more interested in finding ways to discreetly have his primary care physician removed!

As payment for following my advice...

I will shoot his Dr

This is from an old injury where he thinks I have some scare tissue and arthritis in it. It came from doing heavy squats about 2 years ago. My L5 was not moving and thus causing the pain. After years of neglect, it will actually fuse together. Getting it back into alignment and moving is the best thing to do.

Some Drs are fucked. Luckily, about 99% of the Drs I interact with are mostly interested in getting the patient to feel better. Doesn't sound like this guy falls into that group, but I wouldn't take the nurse's word for it, I would talk to the Doc directly, he might hook you up. It may not be someting he does routinely, but he may do it from time to time. Don't trust the receptionist, she may just be trying to get out of doing some work or just trying to cut a phone call short.

Wow, I am sexist, I referred to the Dr as he and the receptionist as she, Bandaid's gonna kill me. Too late to change it now. I better stop typing.

From yesterday:

I looked on Aetna's website today and found two young guys(40 or under I think) that are in practice together. I had just about decided to try one as it said they were accepting new members. So when I go to the chiropractor this afternoon, I explain to him the BS I was told and told him I was going to switch doctors because of it and told him who I was thinking about. Low and behold, it was his doctor!! He said he referred patients to him all the time. So come monday morning I'm calling and switching and I'm telling my current doc why I'm leaving. I agree you should not have to get a referral.

If Bandaid reads this, I would love to know her opinion on DC's, as most DC's and MD's don't always see eye to eye on medical science.

There is not one in my town in-network. Thus the referral is a must if I want to continue going.

I work with some real good ones quite closely and refer many patients to them. I have no problems with them and think they can be a great asset in the overall care of a person. But just like there are bad MDs, there are bad DCs, both of whom give the profession a bad rap.

The health care system in the U.S. is a disaster.

Thank you!

I have an appointment with my new Doc today @ 2pm. He will still need to send some paperwork to Aetna for approval to get my chiropractor in-network, but at least he is willing to do it.
Back is better, but still a little stiff and sore. As soon as I get this insurance stuff worked out, I will going back for some more adjustments.
