Ummm... That would be a no.

'Carb free diet' = 'Carb free'... Therefore anything with starchy/sugar carbs in it you can't eat [most of these diets will allow green vegetables but that is about it].

Few things -
1. people believe that if you take away the glucose in the diet then the body turns to burn fat as fuel - and that it will just burn your body fat stores.

NOTE = theory doesn't work, simply because if you take in more energy than you need as your body will just use incoming energy... also, the body primarily burns fat at rest anyway - it is only during higher energy demands that it turns to carbohydrates.... AND proteins and the glycerol unit of fats can also be converted via gluconeogenesis into glucose in the body....

2. people believe that carbs = insulin = fat storage and that if you take away the insulin you take away the ability of the body to store fat..

NOTE = Fat storage is independant of insulin (your fat cells can take up nutrients in the absence of insulin). Proteins are also insulinogenic (esp things like the BCAAs - they have a marked insulin response) and this is especially in states where blood glucose is low - because of the gluconeogenesis that occurs in these incidences. So you can't avoid insulin simply by avoiding carbs.

3. people believe that ketones (which are formed from fatty acids and used for energy when your body goes into ketosis) are somehow 'magic' in that they create a state in the body where energy is 'disipated' so can eat more and still lose weight...

NOTE = Studies done in metabolic chambers have proven this theory wrong. People in ketosis used a grand total of ~ 3 cals more/day than those not in ketosis...

Sure - do keto if you want to - but it is no different to any other diet.. At the end of the day it comes down to ensuring adequate proteins, essential fats, fibre, vitamins and minerals whilst creating a negative calorie balance. Everything else is simply 'detail'.
