Gotham was Chicago

Posted by: greekblondechic

Hey Jenny! I've been around, I haven't kept up my journal because there is really nothing new and nobody really posts in it anyway. Hope you are doing well

Posted by: busyLivin

Jenny.. where in Chicago are you going?

the storyline in the very beginning was a little ridiculous, but it was a great movie, definately the best batman and one of my favs.

Posted by: King Silverback

I really liked it!!!

I liked it! I like the fact that since it's a prequel, all of Batman's equipment, his suit, the Batmobile, and the cave were all of lesser technology than the other Batman movies, unlike the Star Wars movies where the prequels seemed to have better technology than the episodes that occur later in time.

Oh yeah, and I had a large popcorn when I saw Batman Begins, and the theater gives free refills with the purchase of a large. Fuck that diet.

What the hell was with that storyline? Jack Napier (who then turns into the Joker) is supposed to Kill his parents. Bruce Wayne is then raised by Alfred and creates the vigilante character Batman to avenge their death. Where the hell did they get that story from??

Taken from another message board after a search:
In the comics it was Joe Chill who killed his parents, which is the same as in the movie.

It was Tim who changed it to Jack Napier.

Making the Joker the killer turned the whole thing into a coincidence.
And now thanks to Burton, a lot of people are going to be complaining saying, "But Joker killed his parents, what the hell is up with that?", when it was actually Burton who changed it for convienience.

Killing off the Joker was a big mistake, since he is one of his biggest foes, and one of the motivations for Batman finding his revenge.

Keeping with Joe Chill as the killer for his parents, makes him have a thirst for vengeance, and when he gets vengeance on Joe Chill, he is then left with a thirst for justice, leaving him to become Batman.

My husband said the exact same thing. It was a good movie though.

Joe Chill is the name assigned to the murderer of Bruce Wayne's parents. Chill is best treated as a non-character. An anonymous prime mover in the story of Batman. "Joe Chill" may or may not be his real name. He's basically a nondescript mugger who represents all the criminal scum who prey on the innocent.
In most accounts, Chill is represented as a simple mugger. Perhaps an alcoholic or addict who'd so forsaken his humanity that he'd do anything to get his next fix. It's not clear whether or not Thomas Wayne actually tried to fight Chill off, or was merely trying to move young Bruce out of the way, but something spooked Chill and prompted him to kill both Thomas and his wife right in front of their little boy. Chill then dissappeared into the darkness.
There have been a couple of attempts to flesh out the Joe Chill character and the story of the Wayne murders. During the awkward phase between the golden and silver ages, one storyline told us that Chill was actually making an intentional hit on Thomas Wayne due to Wayne's own crimefighting actions, and that Martha Wayne had died of a grief-induced heart-attack rather than gunshots. The 1989 Batman movie had the Waynes murdered by a criminal who would later become the Joker.
Ultimately, such elaborations are unwarranted and best ignored. For the sake of his role in Batman's origin, Joe Chill cannot be an individual. He can not be a person who Bruce Wayne can track down and confront, as this would allow closure on the Wayne murders, and negate Bruce's need to fight a personal war as Batman. Because Bruce will never identify and confront Joe Chill as an individual, Chill becomes the embodyment of all criminals. So, to Bruce, every mugger is Joe Chill. Every Criminal is subject to his vengence.
In truth, Joe Chill probably died in a gutter years before Bruce Wayne first donned the cape and cowel, never having a clue as to what his actions had unleashed upon the criminal element.

Patrick Bateman: You are a fucking ugly bitch and I want to stab you to death and play with your blood.

Patrick Bateman: My need to engage in homicidal behavior on a massive scale cannot be corrected, but, ah, I have no other way to fulfil my needs.

Patrick Bateman: I have all the characteristics of a human being: blood, flesh, skin, hair; but not a single, clear, identifiable emotion, except for greed and disgust. Something horrible is happening inside of me and I don't know why. My nightly bloodlust has overflown into my days. I feel lethal, on the verge of frenzy. I think my mask of sanity is about to slip.

From what I see there will be a sequel with maybe the Joker involved but I really can't see them replacing good ol' Jack.

Some funny trivia:

Before Christopher Nolan took over, director Darren Aronofsky was attached to make a Batman movie based on the graphic novel "Batman: Year One" and have the author Frank Miller write the screenplay. By 2003 there was a first draft screenplay with story boards, which are properties of AOL Time Warner. Warner's decision for not producing the film is unknown, but based on the details that have since leaked out, it would probably have to do with the screenplay, which strayed a considerable amount from the source material, making Alfred an African-American mechanic named "Big Al," the Batmobile being a souped-up Lincoln Towncar, and Bruce Wayne being homeless, among other things. This is all detailed in David Hughes' book "Tales from Development Hell."
