Why is every bodybuilder (or almost) fear carbs ? The leanest population in the world eat almost only rice.

Yes we are bodybuilders and yes we need more protein, but why this fear of carbs ? Or I would even say , why fear carbs late during the day. Any kind of energy that is not needed will be store as fat, but why is eating carbs late during the night is that bad? Your body doesnt work like : Oh it's 8 Pm and he ate a good amount of carbs, I will just store it as fat. It doesnt shut down all of a sudden after X hours.

I'm not being aggressive there, I just want to know your opinions, explanations, and tips on this.

the point of not eating carbs before bed is your body doesnt need the fuel for energy

The leanest population in the world doesn't eat the shitty carbs ( processed)we do nor the extremely high fat.

yea, that is the main thing.

Also, the reason BB'er avoid carbs usually is because they make them hold water (for every gram of glucose you store an aditional gram of water). BB'ers need to look dry and ripped so they usually cut back on the carbs to do this. Also, while in the long term studies have showen that low fat and low carb diets have pretty much even amounts of weight loss, low carb diets have the most amount of weight loss coming in the first few weeks of the diet (8-12 weeks) so it is much faster than trying to go low fat. That said, I hate low carb diets. I would rather diet on even amounts of fat and carbs and just restrict cals.

And the other big thing about a BB'er diet is......Competition diets are not healthy. There is nothing healthy about dieting for a show.

Interesting post. I do think that many people, bodybuilders included, have an irrational fear of carbs, yet they take in unneccesarily high amounts of protein (I don't mean all bodybuilders, but a lot take in 40% of their cals from protein, which imo is way too much). Having said that, I know that a lot of people have success keeping fat off when they lower their carbs significantly. I think that the main reason some people are scared of carbs is that people are insulin-resistant, and so excess carb consumption leads to fat storage. And as previously posted, carbs are avoided even more at night because at night most people are less active than during the day, so at least during the day people are likely to use the carbs immediately for energy.

if you are bulking there is no problem with eating some low GI carbs at night. if you are trying to lose bf it can have a negative effect. elevated insulin levels inhibit lipolysis (fat loss). so if you eat a lot of carbs your body will switch from trying to burn stored fats to using sugars(glucose) for energy. the body doesn't need carbs except when the body is active. at rest (sitting, watching TV, light house work, desk work, etc.) the primary energy source used by the body is free fatty acids. the brain only needs a couple of grams of carbs an hour to function normally. so if you activity level at night is low the body simply doesn't need all of those carbs/sugars circulating around the bloodstream. then there is the fact that insulin sensitvity is naturally lower at night. so basically your muslces will uptake less glucose at night then in the morning and afternoon so there is a greater potential for excess sugars to now be stored as fats. elevated insulin levels also inhibit GH release. so if you eat a lot of carbs before going to bed your body will not release as much GH, this can obviously effect fat loss since the majority of GH is released at night during the first sleep cycle.

Why are people scared of carbs? Because 'carbs' are what the fats where in the 1980's and 1990's - there the "reason we are all fat".... Because it could not possibly be our own faults that we are obese right? It could not possibly be due to our inactivity/lifestyles, our poor and lazy food selections and preperations and our greed causing us to overeat?

But bump what P-Funk said...

Also, my take on carbs at night is: Here.

At the end of the day - calories in v's calories out will be the major thing that will count towards energy storage - not which macronutrient those calories come from.

I believe that is true for the most part however IMO the types of foods consumed is more important than cals in vs cals out. I have yet to see anyone who is ripped and muscular that consumes little protein and a lot of high GI carbs. so the types of foods that you choose does matter
