quick question, for some reason when I bench I like to have my feet up on the bench, ok I'm short, does this make any difference?

I see people doing it all the time. If you keep yourself good and balanced I dont see why not. The gym I go to has a bench that is only maybe 5 to 6 inches off the ground. Maybe that is what you need.

ok thanks all

I used do do that too. The reason I did it was to make sure I was balanced, rather than relying on my legs to keep me balanced...hope that makes sense!

I find that it is harder for me to stay balanced with my feet on the bench, especially with heavier poundages.

I work my warm up sets with my feet up ( calfs parallel to the ground). It makes the upper body stabilize the movement and has merit with low weight. I would not recommend it for heavy lifts where you require assistance from your legs to stabilize your body.

When I belonged to a gym, the bench was too high for me. I need to place my feet on the ground for balance the heavier the bench the harder it is to balance if feet are not on the ground. So, I placed a 25lb plate on each side of the bench so I could stabilize myself. Give it a try if you feel you get to a point where you can not balance the weight with your feet on the bench.

Just my opinion but I think putting your feet up on the bench is a little dangerous no matter how good you are. If you have short legs, do as mention and get some plates or blocks.

Myself feel a lot more comfortable with my feet firmly on the floor just in case.

I sometimes see guys put their legs straight up in the air during their bench presses. WTF is THAT all about?

OMG! Put your damn feet on the floor........hello???

I agree with some of the above post, you need to have your feet on the floor. I remember one time in high school I had 205 on the bar, my feet on the bench, and began to fall off because of balance issues. Use the 25's on the floor.
