ok i no pwo shakes should be taken in water, but why? why not skim milk? it's said that you need a good source of protein and carbs after a workout so wouldn't the 12g of carbs in the milk make up for it?

I use skim milk all the time with my pwo and have seen some nice results. It is great because you are also getting protein from the milk. I personally can't stand to take my pwo without skim milk, adding ice and fruit to it is a great way to not only make it taste great, but also get the sugars your muscles need after a workout.

Milk is not recommended because for pwo it slows down the absorbtion of protein.
I have found that

8oz of water
40g of whey protein (I use ON 100% chocolate)
1/2 cup oats
2 frozen strawberries + 2 ice cubes

Makes a great shake and it is thick. The blended oats makes a milk like substance and tastes great!
