That's what it's all about

Posted by: ATOMSPLTR

Hey YSK, your max bench is 210 (also your body weight) and you're going to LOL and clap at a guy with the balls to attempt 600?

Posted by: LexusGS

Give this guy some props for at least attempting it.

Posted by: YSK

Its just funny. Of course im amazed at him at least getting it off the bar and suspending it. I actually thought he was going to do it but when it fell the reaction of all those people coming to lift it off him an all is funny. Sounds like you can hear his ribs crack or something.

Thats gotta knock the wind outta you pretty quick

Awesome.

I won't give him props for attempting it either, who cares if you can bench 600lbs if your shaped like an egg. What surprises me is he actually injects himself with steroids to have a body like that, what a waste.

I agree with you to a point.........
But a 350 Lb NFL lineman who makes $750,000 a year who is fat has good reason to juice up.

funny thing is he won't give you props for having big muscles when you can't lift shit with them. he'll be surprised at the fact that bb'ers inject themselves with steroids to get big muscles that don't do anything...what a waste.

thats some deep shit right there, if i do say so myself.

Posted by: soxmuscle

i think everyone who tours boards around the internet has seen this video a good 5-10 times. Thanks for wasting my time, yet again.

so the general understanding is that body builders have big muscles and no strength? I figure all that lifting has gotta be doing something....

Posted by: BruiseKnee

ouch..........damnit, just what i need to see before i go to the gym

Different muscular makeup. High volume training typical of bodybuilding, creates a situation where muscles store great amounts of energy (goop basically) but not high amounts of myofibrils to actually create a stronger contraction.

So yes, many bodybuilders basically look strong, but are not powerlifters.

I don't get it. When I fail, I get the weight up and going but fail to get past a sticking point. I have never started a weight diown and dropped it. by the looks of that pic he was over his limit by 100 lbs. I just don't see missing a weight that bad and coming back the same day and doing it. I doubt that any one on this forum could miss a weight that badly and come back the same day and make it. Mudge you and I have been there before. You might of missed a new best but you almost got it. But this guy was so far off of even being close that day.

Mendy was doing 1005 for 2 in the gym, before he did a single in competition with anything outside of the 9s. Its a weird mental game, but those guys have some serious control over their adrenalin and/or mind.

well, it doesn't look like he missed the lift because he wasn't strong enough. There was no upward movment of the bar at all!! He just lost control of it and the bar rolled out of his hands. So he could have probably nailed it if it didn't slip.

Competitions are weird like that, like Mudge said. You have all these rules that you don't have in the gym. You have all this excitment and adrenaline. It makes you do freaky things sometimes. I have missed an ungly clean and jerk in contest, pulling the bar from the floor, losing my center of gravity and falling overbackwards!! After something like that one would think "how can anyone have the guts to try that again??" You would think that (a) I wasn't strong enough to hit the weight in the first place which is why I lost my footing or (b) I would be scared to come back and try again after something freaky like that. Well, I had them put more weight on the bar and I walked up and smoked my next attempt.

Personally

I could care less how much weight i could lift if i had my idea of a perfect body. I don't see why people train for strenghth if they don't play a sport of some type. Working out just to get strong and not for size with no use for the strenghth just doesn't make any sense. I don't play sports and don't have the mentality that i want to get strong so i can stomp peoples faces in so what i am training for is size/looks, strenghth means pretty much nothing to me its just a benefit of getting bigger.

From the looks of the guy on the video i'm sure he is incapable of playing any type of sport so he's juicing for what reason, just to say he can put up 600lbs, who gives a shit he looks like a lop in the process. What a waste of time in my opinion.

Posted by: Mudge

Powerlifting is a sport. Some would even say, that bodybuilding, which is training for looks - is still a sport.

Training for looks makes about as much sense as training for strength. Its the kind of "sense" we call, doing whatever you want because you like it.

What is the point of hypertrophied muscles filled with nothing but goop, when you only use it in the gym? Useless bags filled with goop that look good. No, I can't honestly see how that is more practical than actually having usefull muscle tissue at all.

Wow dude, im the exact opposite, what's the point of being big if you can't lift for shit?

So you judge him by his looks, nice. Perhaps we should post that picture of the 360 pound Olympic lifter jumping high enough to slam dunk again.

Where is Patrick when you need him.

Posted by: StuckInBako

Like i said i work out for the size and the looks. Not for strenght. I'm not saying you shouldn't work out for strenghth if you need it to play a sport. I'm just saying for me personally i have no use for the strength it just comes with getting bigger and i wouldn't mind if i could only put up 100lbs on bench and curl 50lbs if i had some 22 inch arms and a chest that was about to bust out of my shirt.

Posted by: Mudge

And that is your definition of time well spent? Interesting.

Posted by: raab

the only person a weightlifter or body builder has to please is himself. In the gym you should give everyone their due for being in there and working for their own personal goal. If you find certain body types in the gym that does meet with you approval then keep that to yourself. They are not there for your approval.

Posted by: Mudge

Bingo, to each their own.

Posted by: StuckInBako

Yeah Mudge

Getting bigger is time well spent. Getting puss is better time spent.

I agree with Mudge, what is the point of having all the hypertrophy in the world if you don't have the neurological connection to take advantage of it?

also, from the looks of the guy in the video, while he may be big, stocky, hell even fat! I bet you he can still be athletic in some format. He probably has incredibly strong hips and back and obviously upper body push muscles to put up 600lbs. I bet he could wreck someone on a fottball field.

Also, like Mudge said, look at olympic lifters. they are as athletic as it gets. Eventhough the 105+kg guys look big and sloppy a lot of them have amaving verticals even able to dunk a basketball.

And then there are the lighter guys. Probably the best physiques can be seen in the 84 and the 94kg classes. These guys are lean, muscular, ripped and pretty much as strong as you can be, sometimes even able to front squat 2x's their BW!!!

Look at pyros dimas here....Notice how ripped and muscluar he is. His strength is alos just amazing! This is a 469lb clean and jerk at a BW of 187lbs!

Why would you wanna be big and weak?? Just doesn't sound right to me.

Posted by: smallfry

that dude got balls for attempting that i use to be like that but then again i got stretch marks for it 2 ... thats how i got my football nickname kamikaze

Posted by: icanrace

omgosh, that is nuts!!

Did you hear like the squishing sound when that bar went across his chest?

Holy shit!

Posted by: smallfry

ive had 235 on my neck i know where hes been your neck turns to jelly blood shortage to your head you can hear your spine cracking about to break ive been there trust me its all about the drive and determination i read he came back and bench the 600 "you cant let failure own you you own failure then conqueror it ." wow i just made up a sayin let me write that down

Posted by: Squaggleboggin

Bakersfield, tell me what use all of the size in the world has if you can't do anything with it. It means nothing. "Hey, look at me!" Wow, that's time well spent.

You mean 3x body weight right?

Posted by: Mudge

Ronnie is front squatting about double, tripple would be interesting to witness.

But bakersfield, being big seems to be more impressive to the guys than to the girls. most girls i talk to, including my wife, think anything bigger than Brad Pitt in Fight Club is gross. Maybe in a club setting, "big muscles" are great, wearing your little brother's shirt with rolled up sleeves to impress the ladies or intimidate the dudes. I am not easily initimidated, and I don't try. I would much rather have functional strength and explosive power than beefy arms anyday.

Ronnie is not an O lifter. Dimias (SP) can do a triple BW front squat I think.

yea, more than triple is BW. Also, Ronnie is front squating with his arms crossed over the bar, not in the rack position. I wonder what Dimas could squat if he crossed his arms over the bar!
