Ok, back to school. I have a meal plan that is basically forced. I usually eat there once or twice a day. Grilled chicken and veggies are always available so I always go with these. However, a quality carb source is not. What I Have been doing is bringing a little container of oats, eating them there, then filling it up with cottage cheese for later meals . This works well, but sometimes I'm not able to prepare enough. So here are my options:

Healthy Choice Bread - Hearty 7 Grain
Serving size: 1 slice (38 g) Calories: 80
Calories from fat: 10

Amount/Serving %DV*
Total Fat (1g) 2%
Saturated Fat (0g) 0%
Cholesterol (0mg) 0%
Sodium (170mg) 6%
Vitamin A 0%
Calcium 15% Amount/Serving %DV*
Total Carbohydrates (18g) 6%
Dietary Fiber (3g) 12%
Sugar (3g)
Protein (3g)
Vitamin C 0%

Cheerios
http://www.cheerios.com/about/cheerios.asp

Other cereals: Frosted mini wheats, Raisin Bran, Kix, Rice Chex

Other carb choices: Milk, Random fresh fruit 2 choices switched daily (usually melon, grapes, bananas, apples, grapefruit, pineapple), canned peaches and pears, yogurt (highly doubt it is low sugar/fat).

So what I've been doing is eating 1 slice of the 7 grain bread. I do not eat the cereal fruit or yogurt since I normally do not eat these things. Should I just go with a couple glasses of milk? I am just trying to balance this meal since I can get all the grilled chicken and cottage cheese I want. Thanks

usually I don't eat bread either, but I have to use this meal plan. I will as often as possible bring my own oats. This is just when I have no choice. I know they're bad but I can't help it so please don't scold me

The bread is fine once a day. I would definately fill up on fresh veggies. 2-3 servings of a smll fruit such as apples and grapefruit and melon is perfect. Stay clear of canned fruits. Yogurt is a good choice once a day. Personally I stay away from bananas and grapes unless bulking.

ah thanks jodi, I am with you on the fruit choices. When at home I only eat berries- and that is on occasion. I appreciate the quick response

Really, you have a lot of viable choices there. Eating a slice or two of bread a day isn't going to kill you.

Cheerios are actually pretty good. From what I understand, they are basically oats in the shape of little Os. The other cereals sound like they are loaded with sugar, although you should check the nutritional information.

Fruit is always good. You don't want it to be your only carb source, but getting in a few servings a day, as Jodi said, is a very healthy practice.

Although there is nothing inherently wrong with yogurt, you should check the nutritional info before getting what's available at school. I have a feeling it's loaded with sugar.

What's wrong with canned fruit? Preservatives? Added sugar?
