Can somebody explain the science of this?

I am new to bodybuilding, so I should consider this initial phase as a bulk phase?

I.E bulking up size wise through building my core and focusing on big compound lifts and not on accessory movements, and eating eating eating?

Then cut is just that cut to bring back definition or "refine" the mass you've gained?

I see this bulk/cut thing used on alot on here, and was wondering if I could get a CowPimp type response to explain it?

TIA everybody.

Bulking is just gaining weight. Some people consider a bulk a mad frenzy of eating where you pack on as much weight as possible. However, you can do a clean and lean bulk and minimize fat gains, but it often takes longer to reach the desired end result.

Cutting is losing weight. Basically, the idea is to lose as much fat as possible while maintaining your muscle mass. This is how you tone, not 100 rep dumbbell kickbacks.

The difference between cutting a bulking pretty much comes down to diet. You have to eat beyond maintenance calories to bulk, and below maintenance calories to cut. Most any routine will do the job as long as you are eating the proper foods, your nutrient timing is down, and you get enough sleep.

Lift, eat, sleep, grow, repeat.
