Legs-high Or Low Reps?

Just simple, what do you think's best for leg training (quads, hams, calves etc)?
High reps (10,12,15) or low reps (4,6,8) etc. Cheers.

both.

Do you mean for example, alternate it each week- high one week, low the following week back to high etc, or do you think Arnolds approach was better, do power low reps roughly once every three weeks? Hmmm, tis a tricky one....

I like to lift heavy, so I work up to very low reps. However, to get there, I start lighter and do sets of 10-12. So, I will end up doing 8 sets or so.

IMO it is higher reps for legs. But low reps will work too of course.

Your legs are always used; when you walk, run etc.

So doing high reps will stress them past the norm i guess.

There are all kinds of ways to alternate rep ranges. You could alternate every week, work from lower to higher weight over the course of 8-12 weeks, or even use a combination every workout. Any of them will do the job.

for squats I warm up then do work sets of 20,12,8 I find I gain the best of these cuz with the 2o rep I start to give out at twelve but I take second to get some deep breathes and then I am usually able to repeat that 8 more times.

For quads and building mass for me it's 4-5 warm up sets, then 1 set 6-8 reps and the a 20 rep windowmaker.

We have several fiber types and require varying rep ranges...everything from 4 to 20 reps.

I do sets of two for pretty much everything, so there's my opinion.

Well, if you're making amazing gains with, say, a 5x5 routine, why on earth would you change it?

Yup, still alive but super busy with new projects. I still make sure to check out the board and see whats going on. Hopefully soon I can be around more often like the old days. Hope you are doing well my friend.

i do 2 all out sets of 8-15 reps, then 1 set of 20 reps, much like tough old man. a window maker, courtesy of dc training.

Switch it up P/RR/S style, Im gonna make a comeback (hopefully) once I start bulking again.

well today was leg press day for quads and I up the weight an additional 20 lbs on my first working set and up it 20 lbs for my windowmaker. after I was done with the windowmaker all I could do is lay there for a while.
Try it and see how you do. If your unfamiliar with what a windowmaker is, I'll explain it to you.
Find a weight for leg presses that you can only get 10-12 reps with it. Now get it 20 times plus reps. now people talk about screaming. I will also personally tell you that you will be at least sqeaking and the legs will be shaking like hell by the time your done. When you get it, I guarantee you that you will be done for the day.
Now if you really want to play with yourself, in a couple of months down the road, lower the weight by 50 lbs and do a 50 rep set. this will also get your attention.
Just remember if you want to try either of the above workouts, make sure that your 1st set is with a really heavy weight that is hard to get 8 reps with.
