Legs hurt after running?

Ive put on 30 lbs or so and now whenever I run my shins and lower legs hurt in a bad way. Almost like they were pounding too much. Do I have to build a tolerance to this? Does anyone else get this?

You will adapt to it, it took me about 3weeks ( running 3 or 4 days a week) to get over this pain.

Mine have hurt like that my whole life. I went to a knee doctor in high school who found out my hamstrings were tighter than normal. He said my quads were having to work extra hard during running and jumping, and it put a lot of pressure on my knees, shins, lower legs. I did somewhat have a tolerance for it, but now after years of not playing basketball and running, it hurts like hell when I try to run for extended periods. The more I stretch my legs before running, the more the pain is reduced. So, my advice is make sure you stretch very well before running.

And I have also gained a lot of weight since high school (60lbs).

He brings up an interesting point. Although not exactly where he was going, perhaps a muscle imbalance could be part of the problem here. Most people neglect their posterior chain relative to their quads. I'm not positive that this leads to the problem you are speaking of, but I know that all kinds of problems can stem from antagonistic muscle imbalances.

Post your leg routine for us.
