I dont know if its the same in the US but here on a packet of Splenda in small red writing on the back it says "this product found to cause cancer in lab rats" !! Shit give me a truckload of the stuff !!

I was always confused about artificial sweetners, are they safe or not? So I asked my nutrition prof about them and he said they are fine, all except the sodium cyclamates of course. Anything in huge amounts would be detrimental to health but if taken in moderation, its fine.
