I am starting hiit training in a day or two and i read that ur supposed to do it right when u wake up becaus enothings in your stomach. I was wondering if this would be ok as in i would be burning fat on the empty stomch instead of lean muscle?

It is a highly risky endeavor. You can quell some of this risk by sucking down some protein in liquid form before the jog.

My opinion is that you shouldn't bother with cardio on an empty stomach unless it is a last resort.

ditto to CP..

if you want to do it 1st thing in the am at least either take 10-20 grams of BCAA's or a protein shake mixed with water. either method will help to limit catabolism

of i just jog normally instead of doin hiit, like say after school will i still lose wieght without burnin my muscle or lean body tissue

The real issue here isn't what kind of cardio you do. Either form is going to be risky for your LBM if you jog in a catabolic state, like you are in first thing in the AM. Do whichever kind of cardio floats your boat.

iight but lets forget the am part and say im not in a catabolic state. What i am worried is thatr if i go jogging for say 30 minute am i goin to burn up the muscle in my legs and lose lean body muscle instead of burnin the fat. ( im just worried wether longjoggin for 30- 40 mi nutes is goin to nurn muscle in my legs and cause me too lose some strenght)

HIIT should be treated as a training day. you wouldn't train on empty would you?

fasted SS cardio however is fine.

I find HIIT to be hard to do in the morning.. A light jog or low intensity biking is what I do when I do cardio first thing in the morning. However, I like to wait until post lifting workout to do my cardio.

I thought running in the morning was beneficial because your body was using fat energy instead of food energy?

depends on the type of cardio. as far as HIIT is concerned, while exercise intensities increase, the proportion of carbohydrate usage increases while energy substrate derived from fat decreases. interval training is optimal for fat loss b/c while it burns less calories overall and less fat during training (compared to endurance cardio), the post-exercise recovery period leads to greater energy expenditure and fat loss (EPOC = excess post-exercise oxygen consumption).

HIIT stands for 'high intensity interval training'. there are many forms of intervals.

No, it shouldn't. Assuming that you have some food in your stomach when you perform the exercise that is.

I swear to God many bodybuilders perpetuate some stupid myth that cardio causes you to shrivel up and die because they are too damned lazy to do cardio. Just don't go overboard. Something like 2-3 days per week consisting of training that can be considered active recovery or is geared toward increasing work capacity is perfectly fine.
