this has probably already been asked but i cant find it - does doing cardio work help when it comes to lifting? will the benefits of cardio work like more mitochondria in cells help by giving you more energy for your last couple of reps when lifting heavy (8 reps)?

The biggest benefit cardio will have in terms of lifting is improved recovery. If you properly implement bouts of low to moderate intensity cardio into your training routine, then it can aid your muscles in recovering via the increased blood flow during and shortly after finishing the cardio session.

Improved capillary density, another benefit of cardio, will aid in increasing the upper limit of blood flow to muscle. This will aid in the removal of waste products, such as lactic acid, during resistance training. So, in theory, cardio will help you delay the onset of muscular fatigue due to lactic acid buildup and will allow your active recovery sessions to be more productive.

I have actually found that cardio helps when doing powerlifting.
I'm serious, when I finally started doing cardio consistently, I noticed that my strength gains after a couple of weeks started increasing. They continued until I started slacking off and stopped again. But I swear it helped to a large degree.

Anything to increase work capacity is a good thing. Bodyweight exercises, sled dragging, traditional cardio, etc.
