Chins necessary for total back developement?

I've been doing chins in my back routine for months now and I HATE doing them. I was wondering how many of you have had good overall back developement without them, and if so what does your back routine consist of. Any input will be much appreciated

I do Chin ups, D/B pull overs, B/B Bent over row, Deadlifts for lower back on heavy work out day. I do that for two weeks and always feel my back has been worked after chin ups. Do wide grip and make sure u look over the bar at least each rep if your doin 12's hang a weight around your waist.
every other two weeks im doin a matrix workout (when doin reps do five full motion five bottom half five top half then five full again) Lat pull downs (in front), D/B Bent over row, and seated rows (always feel the bent over row), Hyperextension for lower back holding w8 to chest ( Ooo Baby !!)
I do all my bent over rows lying on and incline bench
Anyway that's what i do and i only been workin out for 2mths but i feel the muscles in my back have been worked all the time.
Hope that was of help
P.S. Learn to love them

I do no think they are necessary. I used to do them, but I no longer do.

I for one don't believe that there is "necessary" movements, just ones that are better that others. I personally love pullups and feel they have helped my back development.
I'm just wondering why you hatedoing them? its probably because the are good.

I agree with Seyone, not necessary but a shorter route to the end product.

Just like squats...great movement for some, not for others. I rarely do them. I'm mainly a row and deadlift guy, but will also use pulldowns to front and back with varying grips and body positions, hammer strength machines, and pullovers or stiff arms pulldowns for width.

OK thanks everyone. I am going to either keep chins for 2 sets or do a v-bar pull down instead. But I am going to stop doing them first, I will probably do them after BB rows.

I like to do my deadlifts first.

Chins are a necessity in back training but remember variety is the key. Use different grips or machine pulldowns and don't always do chins in the same place of your work out order. Try iso-lateral pulldowns. There are hundreds of varieties, so use your imagination and experiment.
