I asked ForemanRules and he asked me to post here for advice from all members. Well Here goes-

"I have been reading the forums for a few days now and have been thinking about getting into good shape for a good 6 months now. I really think I am ready to get started but the diet/nutrition and everything seem very overwhelming to me. I've noticed you were very helpful with other people and thought I would ask you for some guidence or maybe direct me to someone who could.

I am 18 in highschool. My soccer season has just ended and that was my only form of workout. In school I take strenght and conditioning, we stretch and do a small workout. It is enough for a minor change in my body but I don't think it will take me much further unless I start to get really serious.

I weigh about 160 5'7".

I've never had much of a diet -I've been living off chocolate milk / pop / water. And I only get lunch at school and dinner at home with snack (junk) food in between. This is what I really need to fix.

I do not really know what I need to be looking for to get started which is why I am sending you this lol. Also i was wondering if you have read the book Burn the fat Feed the Muscle and would recommend it as much as this website seems to."

Thanks in advance

If it took you 6 months just to think about getting into shape, how long does it take you to mow the yard?

"I've been living off chocolate milk / pop / water. "

This is possible? I just ate a lunch of tuna and cottage cheese for nothing?

18.....
1 Get a job so you can buy your own food.
2 Join a gym
3 Read the training section and online journals for workout ideas..
4 Read the diet section for ways to eat well..
5 Lastly once you have done all of the above post specific questions you might have.

Got a job. I goto right after school so I can't use the schools gym because it closes, I think my only choice is the next school nearby has a gym/track for the community.

I'll start doing so more research on the forums. I've started drinking all water this week hopefully this will help.

thanks for replying

I would like to get lean and build muscle mass.
I really lack in all of my upper body. Some reason my calves and theighs are very big, tons of muscle but not very defined.

My best advice to you. Pick one of these two.

A) Get Lean
B) Build Muscle Mass
XX) 98% chance both A & B aren't going to happen. So pick one of the first two choices

Tough and Ready

Start by going to the store with your parents when they go. Find foods that are healthy that you actually enjoy eating.
Find things that you can eat 5-6 time a day that are healthy. Post what you come up with in the diet section, and we will critique it from there.

Seeing as how he is a newbie to resistance training, it is entirely possible to do both. Most people's bodies will do at least a slight recomposition if they keep eating at maintenance calories during the first few months of lifting.

To the original poster, check out my writeup on designing a full body routine. It should help you get started on the path to success.
