do you weigh chicken breast before cooking or after... cause it's way heavier before than after i was wondering...

I weigh it before cooking....because, depending on the cooking process, and the length of cooking.....you remove more or less water. I think the numbers are more consistant with raw meat, dry oats, dry pasta etc...

Too difficult IMO to weight raw. It's easier to cook up a bunch and then weight and cut what you need. 3.5oz. of cooked Chicken is 30G Protein approx.

chicken should be a cooked weight.

Really, how come....I guess my thinking is the opposite to how to measure dry oats. Is cooked chicken is more consistant (weight wise) once the water has been cooked off (provided it's fairly well cooked)?
With oats, the measurement will vary depending on volume of water added and absorbed. So Meat measurements should be factored after cooking and not before?

Beef, chix, fish etc... after cooking
Oats, cereals - before cooking
rice, grains - after cooking

Doesn't the amount of water used for cooking rice affect the final weight significantly?

You don't weigh rice, you measure it.

Anything that alters significantly in the cooking process it will certainly be much more accurate if you were to weigh/measure before cooking. So that means most things - meats, oats, rice, legumes etc.
Personally, I measure all grains/legumes (oats, barley, rice, lentils, beans etc) raw and then cook them. And, by doing this, I have seen how much the volume can change and how inaccurate it can be if you measure after...
However, for some reason, most people only measure oats raw and will cook up rice/legumes first...
For meats I also suggest to most people that they weight first... Simply because you can change the weight a lot with different cooking methods.
