Pre-Cooked Meals?

I have been pre-cooking my chicken/rice or chicken/broccoli for a 3 day period to cut down on prep time each day. I have not been doing this with breakfast and I find that I am short on time in the mornings and don't always have time to make something so I end up grabbing something from the golden arches on my way to work (#3 yum) My question is, is there anything wrong with cooking my eggs/oats the night before to save time in the morning? I worry that pre-cooking food ruins the nutrition in it if you don't eat it right away...is that a crazy way of thinking or am I still going to get all the protein I would have got making and eating it right away?

Thanks diet gurus!

eggs and oats do not reheat well at all, but the nutritional content is not effected. right now I'm using tuna shakes for my 1st meal.

I too can make them at the same time....but its a matter of getting up doing my cardio and getting ready for work and getting in a real meal.

LAM how do you feel about eating tuna often? What is your take on the mercury levels? I eat the white albacore tuna no more twice a week because I worry about it.

well it's certainly nothing that I would order out at a resturant. 16 oz spicy V8, 1 can tuna, splash of worcestershire sauce and a dash of red pepper w/ 2 tablespoons of olive oil

I normally have a whey shake first thing in the am but i'm on a slow cut right now and trying to eat more whole food protein for the higher TEF

I always make my brown rice 3 cups at a time, lasting 2-3 days typically. I sometimes make chicken breasts 3 times at once, which is usually gone by the next day.

You can make scramble eggs in the microwave in about 2 minutes. (easier if it's whites only, don't know why but whites cook better)....just find a microwave safe bowl and crack a bunch of whites in it and stir them up with a fork. Cover it with a microwave safe cover and cook at 1 minute at a time (5 or so whites + 1 whole egg takes about 2 minutes). Works well.

You could hard boil a bunch of eggs on Sat/Sun to take with you in the week. They're a lot more portable once they're hard boiled

another option, pre-soak the oats overnight in your pot. Throw them on the stove when you are getting ready for work, eat. go to work.

Thanks for the advice guys...I cook my main meals for 3 days as it is so that works out great.....can I cook three breakfasts? Or will that go bad before 3 days is up?

about the microwave thing I used to do that and they turn out VERY good and fluffy as hell....BUT I just got myself a nice cast iron skillet that I have seasoned and ready to cook me up some grub. Yeah that is strange but I have always wanted a cast iron skillet to cook on. Now that I have it I really enjoy cooking on it so I do my eggs that way now. They turn out good. I cook my 5 whites and 1 whole egg in a couple of tablespoons of olive oil. The oats only take a few minutes to nuke so maybe I am crying like a girl when its not that bad...who knows.

Why not make protein pancakes and store these in the freezer/fridge instead? That way you can just grap them and re-heat in the microwave each day and there would be no hassle involved.

I sometimes have to make my oats the night before I eat them and they work out fine but I am not sure how the oats would go with egg whites in them. But if you used the suggestion of hard-boiling the eggs and peeling/eating them as needed then this would also be a way to get around the problem.

i cook 3 days worth of brown rice/beef and sweet potatoes/chicken and just reheat it in the microwave. Works like a charm.
