Anybody know any site's or have any links to any articles that thoroughly explain good form?

Thanks. w.a.r.

search around this site, P-funk has posted tons of video's and text on how to properly do the olympic lifts, however it is a very techincal lift which requires a coach to get the technique down as you won't see certain things an experienced coach will see. If you are planning on competing in Oly lifting, seek out someone experienced to teach but if you are trying to do it for sport or just a change of pace, do some searching on this forum, read some journals (p-funk and MonkeyMan are both oly lifters) and do some google searches. You'll find lots of explanation in text and video's of the lifts. study them carefully and start with light weight to work your form, i'm saying extremely light weight, like empty bar to get the groove of the lift.

If you know what the movement should generally look like, you can piece together the form from different exercises. For example, I used to do the clean and press. It's not on there, but if you look at something with a clean and then something else with an overhead press, you can simply piece together the form. As Yanick already said, I'd recommend using just the bar at first to make sure your form is absolutely perfect. I usually say not to move up in weight if you think you can still improve on your form, but the olympic lifts are extremely difficult to perfect, and even the olympic lifters are still perfecting their form. Just be sensible.

I don't think you will find anywhere that thoroughly describes power clean form, the videos are good, but most are full cleans. The only real difference is that you only squat 1/4 of the way down during the catch on a power clean as opposed to the full squat on the clean, granted that is actually a huge difference in re: to the mechanics.

yea, videos don't do it justice. You need someone to help you out a little.

You are correct though. They are really two different exercises.

Work on your deadlift and squat if you want to get a big power clean. IMO my deadlift made the biggest difference into getting into the higher #s for me, my explosion from the bottom up was so much that all I pretty much had to do was come up and get under the bar. My senior year in HS I got into the 300s with ease just so happens that was my deadlift got much stronger also. Be quick with those elbows also, a lot of the guys I lifted with that were sluggish with their elbows never really got into the higher #s, it would seem like they got the weight up but just start falling forward until they couldn’t hang on to the bar anymore. Powerclean is a lot of little things put together which you will only get with lots of practice; find someone to walk you though the basics if you don’t know them in person. After that is all going to be up to you
