If you mean the one that you sit in and pull straight towards you (kind of like a seated cable row), than this is one of my absolute favorites for back! I do them one arm at a time.

It's this one here:

I use that one and the low ISO ROW.

I think they are the second best thing in the gym with wieghts coming in first.

Cable rows bother my back more than anything else but with these machines I don't feel any pain.

Thanks for breaking away from the fight to comment Mino

i like the hammer machines. i usually use one after my 2-3 main compound exercises of the day to really focus on a full rom muscle contraction.

agreed, hs machines are second only to freeweights IMO. I usually stick to freeweights, but sometimes incorporate Hammer Strength into my workout just for variation.

Actually I couldn't keep up, I got dizzy and I fainted next thing you know I woke up here.

Thanks for all the inputs. Looks like they are all positive on this one.

Gopro, why one arm at a time?

I love using HS machines. Unfortunately, we don't have those here. As a matter of fact, I don't think they have them back at the home station too.

Better isolation I imagine.

Care to expand on that?

Although I can't comment specifically on that machine, I have used a couple of other HS machines before. As far as machines go I think they are generally quite good.

Nothing really to expand upon, I just don't personally get alot out of that particular machine. That does not make it a poor machine, just one that is not good for me.

With the particular machine I was referring to, I get a better stretch and contraction using one arm at a time. In addition, I am a huge proponent of uni-lateral training in general.

The only Hammer stuff I do 2 arm is pressing, never the pulling. Its funky that way. Kevin Levrone is the same way, I think pretty much everyone is.

I agree with you on the unilateral training. I think it is vastly underused. I am starting to implement it back into my training. Not only is it great for balance, but that additional load placed on core musculature and the shift in function for some of the ancillary musculature used during the movement is of great benefit.

Yes to everything you said...and in addition, there is increased "nerve force" to muscles when trained one side of the body at a time. This can result in greater contractions and more muscle fibers exhausted.

I've tried it a couple of times in my gym, but it didn't do anything for me. I got better contractions doing chins or pulldowns. Nothing against Hammer Strength because some of their stuff is really good, but I pass on this one.
