My Little Training Theory

Ok I'm sure there is probably a name for this type of training, but I can't find it. I was thinking about ways to train the other day and what is the right way to enable me to put on mass, and then I thought I generally see a good results with low reps , high Weight , usually 6 reps appears to be best for me. To get to the point :

"Normal" run of the mill training that I and friends of mine do is this (Bench press example)

3 Sets , 6-8 reps, 180lbs. (This would include a spotter)

The thing is I always want to go to failure, so after the first set I JUST manage to reach 6 and would not be able to reach 7, then it goes to 5, and then to 3-4.

What I was thinking, what is the training regime called where you set the exact amount of reps you want to do IE "6" for example, do the 180lbs in 6 reps(No more then 6 , ie you would hit failure then), then lower the weight to 165lbs or whatever weight for you to enable to reach 6 again JUST, and then for the 3rd set lower it so you can reach 6 again.

I mean it kinda sounds like a "Super Set" in some ways, But instead its 3 seperate sets aiming at exactly 6 Reps...

P.S : This Might Sound Extremely stupid, I do not know...just something on my mind which I had to ask, sorry if I wasted your time.

Haha, I remember thinking up stuff like this all the time. Of course, the things I thought of probably had no basis whatsoever. Anyways, it's called reverse pyramiding as far as I know. Just keep on dropping the weights. Usually the reps are dropped too, but I'd imagine this would just be called another version of reverse pyramiding. It's nice to see that you're thinking though. It's much more fun to come up with your own routines IMO.

hehe, yea . Reverse Pyramid ? yea sounds similar to that, But I wonder what the exact name is if there is one for my little "theory". I think I'll give it a shot as well.

Yeah, a reverse pyramid is where you have a few warmup sets, but your first working set is your heaviest and you get progressively lighter from there.

Maybe I stumbled onto something new?

99.999% sure I havn't, but there is always that 0.001% of a chance

I really think I might give it a shot.
