Why can't the Super Bowl be played in the cold?.

I've always wondered why Super Bowls had to be played in warm-weather cities or in domes. I understand that the NFL wants to make the game as appealing as possible for fans, media and players, but it's the Super Bowl -- the game will always be appealing. Super Bowl Sunday has become a holiday and the game has become a national event. Nothing will ever hurt it.

I think the Super Bowl would have even more appeal if it was played in a cold-weather city in a non-domed stadium (this year's game is in Detroit, but Ford Field is enclosed). Think about some of the most memorable games in NFL history -- the Ice Bowl, the Fog Bowl, the Tuck Game. All were enhanced by the fierce weather conditions. Why can't this be the case in the Super Bowl?

Some may argue that you want the biggest game to be determined in the fairest way possible. But that's nonsense. How come weather can be a factor in an NFC or AFC Championship game? Those contests are almost as important as the Super Bowl.

As an NFL fan, I think it would make the Super Bowl even more exciting if the game was played in an Arrowhead Stadium (without the roof) or a Lambeau Field or a Ralph Wilson Stadium or a Invesco Field, just to name a few places. Players deal with cold weather all through November, December and January. What's one more game with some inclemency?

Fans will show up to a Super Bowl (especially if their team is in it), no matter what the temperature or conditions. I guess special accommodations would have to be made for the plethora of parties that week, and you might have to find a facility to hold that ridiculous media day that's been taken over by interviewers who know nothing about football. But it would be worth it to have the added excitement of having the ultimate game played in snow or rain or freezing temperatures.

Too many pansies in sports. Look how much they whine about having to play away games in the cold during the season. Look at the World Series as another example. The Astros were bitching because they left the roof open when it was 50 degrees outside. Give me a break, they get paid millions of dollars and they're nothing but a bunch of whiners.

cities that host the Super Bowl can make a ton of money. nobody is going to fly to some old, beat down old cit to spend a lot of money. simple economics

Like New York, Chicago, Boston, or Philly? Cold climate, with big town all over them.

In New York they will sell out.

I do think that some players benefit from the colder weather, these guys play the final games in the cold and there bodies may even get used to the weather by then. It's a sad sight seeing these giants suffering from heat exhaustion.
I know my Giants and Jets are conditioned for the cold.

I believe it has to do with making money off the rich guys who shell out top dollar for these games. Some rich snob is not going to want to sit out in the cold, but a real fan of the team would.

I would love to see it at Soldier Field....the problem is I think they also try to pick fields where the home team doesn't have a chance of playing there during the big game

I would pay and watch it at my stadium but to go another State would be way too expensive.

don't you think NY/Boston/Philly region couldn't draw other east coast dwellers?

I know in Chicago we would draw from Milwaukee/Indy/St. Louis

I'm happy the big game will be in the D this year


Too bad the NFC north really sucks....I can't believe the Bears are going to the playoffs and I love our team, but they are not all that...even though we shut down the Panthers and Bucs.

For an NFC team were strong...not the best though. Compared to the AFC we need a few prayers.

Well this year its in Detroit, and we have a beautiful new stadium...

And its gonna be F*#ckin cold!!!

And you wont believe the bad press Detroit is going to get...

They are rebuilding the entire downtown area right now...
(But the city is beyond repair) -

Its gotten a lot better....a lot. I lived there throughout high school and every time I go back (going there again in a couple of weeks) It look better.

All across the country downtowns are cleaning up...The concept of gentrification is a great idea, but it doesn't solve a lot...Its just going to shift the poverty somewhere else...hopefully not my neighborhood

Eh, people travel from all over the country to see the game. Don't matter how far.
