What made arnold who he was?

I know that Arnold is a very high held figure in the world of Bodybuilding today, but what made him so? I dont know very much about him, or bodybuilding in general but when you look at pictures of Ronnie Coleman and others, they seem to be just as big and defined. They also have more Mr.Olympia titles, which i guess doesnt mean to much but still. One thing i do notice on Arnold however is his massive chest, when you look at others today, all their pecs are kinda small, at least compared to Arnold. Anyways if you could answer my question it would be great, thanks.

If all Arnold had was body building...he would have been Mr Olympia from 1970-1985.....but he was greater than that sport and proved it.

He is very charismatic for one, he also appeals to the regular guy.
Most other bodybuilders lack his persona.

I hope his political career is as susceful as his other careers.

I hope he rebounds, if my memory serves me right Sergio Oliva beat him and he came back strong and kicked ass in BB and if you saw "Hercules in Manhatten" you would have agreed with the critics at the time and say he had no future in Hollywood.

Arnold is very shrewd so I still have some faith in him.

he was a "pioneer" of the sport, watch Pumping Iron maybe that will help you understand.

Hercules in New York. His name for that movie was "Arnold Strong"

I like the movie, heh.

Arnold just had/has more than bodybuilding going for him. Hes an overall character.

I think hes a prime example of someone who can accomplish what he wants by working hard and setting goals. Very good example of a "rags to riches" story.

I don't think you can even compare Ronnie and Arnold... times (and cycles) have changed!
What made him so great? Genetics, personality, confidence, personality, big dreams and personality.
He gave bodybuilding popularity and he made it seem attainable to everyday people.

Yeah. It was time for an icon of bodybuilding to emerge and take it to the next level, to promote it to the world. This is what Arnold did. Bodybuilding was simply ready to become more than just accepted, fate decided it was time and arnold and friends were the pro's to pull it off in a right time, right place situation, creating the 'Golden age' of bodybuilding.
