Hey,
I'm going on winter break soon from college, and for the first time ever (and it can only last a few weeks) I can hold to a strict diet.
And I'm stuck at the first meal, breakfast.
I plan on eat egg whites taken out of a whole egg (taking out the yolk before cooking).... and if it madders the eggs are JUMBO EGGS... thats right

How much protein am I looking at by extracting the yolk? I have heard in a different thread it is as little as 3 or 4, where each each complete has 8 g protein in them.... so whaddya think?

remember..... JUMBO!!!! JUMBO!!!!!!!!!

Usually the whites have 1/2 the total protein of the egg..

SHIT..... i was hoping it wasnt that bad, but alright....

are egg whites more cost effective? ive only had them once in my life, and the carton had like 16 eggs worth for like 5 dollars or something ridiculously high.... ill be bummin off my parents so i dont want to be any more of an ass than im already gunna be by eating all their food aha

i guess the JUMBO factor wasnt an issue.... fuck you jumbo

Ok. I don't know of any direct data for jumbo eggs - but you can extrapolate..

In a large egg:
6.8g protein total
3.5g in the white
Therefore the yolk has ~3.3g protein

So that means of that 6.8g protein ~52% protein from the white and ~48% of the protein from the yolk.

1 jumbo egg:
8.2g protein total

So 48% of this is 3.936g which is in the yolk...52% is 4.26g which is in the white.

I have no idea how much egg-white cost over there... but over here they are pretty expensive ($2.70 for nine egg whites) so you would probably still be better off getting the whole eggs... And you could always leave 1-2 yolks in per day too - which would give you more protein and less waste.

Errr, I thought in a "large" egg there is 6 g of protein, and 1 g of it comes from the yolk?

Edit: Nevermind. I'm wrong. Wow i always thought the yolk had ~1 g of protein and the rest was in the white.

Are the yolks that unhealthy for you? I heard theres no proof that they acutally raise bad chloresterol. Is that true?

tis true.

Just account for the additional fats.

really!??!!??!!?
that is the main reason why I don't eat the yolks.... im on a PH cycle right now, so im watching my cholesteral, but this kind really doesn't madder?
what would you say about eating 4 whole eggs in the morning, every day.... would that add up to a negative effect? maybe if im really hungry ill take 5...

The reason people don't eat all those yolks is that you could be getting your fat from better sources than yolks. They are also relatively high in saturated fats. I will sometimes eat two in one meal though.

Dietary cholesterol contributes very little to your total blood cholesterol - most of it is genetic.... However, lots of HFCS and lots of saturated fats will alter your choesterol level.

1-2 yolks would be fine but I would not do 4 whole eggs every morning - that is 20g of fat from eggs (8g of which is saturated)..

There are better places to be getting that fat from...

cool..... to play it safe im going to only keep one yolk in my little batch every morning... it will add some flavor to the other whites which really does help me down them... many thanks
